Position Type: Support Staff/Instructional Aide EXLDate Posted: 10/21/2025Location: Jackson Elementary SchoolDate Available: when filledClosing Date: when filledSUMMARY OF POSITION:The primary responsibility for the instructional aide is direct involvement with students within the instructional setting. Job duties range from supporting students in the classroom to supplementing regular classroom curriculum with additional enrichment activities for students. This position will deal with community members, parents, students and staff on a regular basis and will be expected to interact with these publics in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.Starting hourly rate:$15MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must meet all Indiana requirements as a highly qualified Instructional Assistant.Two years of college or the equivalent is required in order to provide instruction to a student.Teaching license and/or educational training and experience preferred.The responsibilities and duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Provide instruction assistance to students with direction and guidance of teacher and/or facilitatorWork with individual students or small groups for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning conceptsAssist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progressProvide supervision and support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activitiesWork with other professionals, such as speech therapists, social workers, occupational and physical therapistsAssist classroom teachers with documenting and maintaining student records including data collection methodsSupport students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skillsSupport students who are on a non-diploma track due to the disabilities of the class having a more intense needUtilize de-escalation strategies to prevent behaviors that could be harmful to self or othersBe a part of the crisis team for the classroom and building to support appropriate Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)Perform health related student needs as trained by the nurse in the building.Support escorting throughout the building and to and from the bus as necessaryAssist in classroom managementAssist in regular communication with families regarding student progressAssist with the administration and scoring of student assessmentsAssist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipmentAssist teacher with administrative records and preparation of required reportsFunction as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidanceRespond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving student safety concerns and reporting those concerns to direct supervisorKeep teacher and/or reading specialist informed of special needs or problems of individual studentsAttend staff meetings and/or after school functions when directed by director or administratorComplete other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the director, building administrator or administrator designee KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal professionally and effectively with persons at all levels to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publicsWork cooperatively with teachers, students, and staffAbility to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily workAbility to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporationAbility to work independently and in a team environmentAbility to multi-task with attention to detailAbility to learn classroom procedures and expectations and apply them on a consistent basisDemonstrate organizational and time management skillsPerform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (includes equipment, hours, physical demands)Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all classroom equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required. Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 5.75 hours or less per day. No more than 180 days per year. Hours/days may be adjusted per the direct supervisor to assure adequate coverage to meet the demands of the school and job. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
