As the storytellers of South Carolina, the South Carolina State Museum (SCSM) staff share the rich natural history and cultural diversity, innovative spirit, and artistic creativity of the state through the museum's permanent collections, educational programs, exhibitions and digital resources. SCSM seeks a detail-oriented individual to perform various duties related to custodial, housekeeping, and groundskeeping to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall presentation of the museum's public and staff areas, ensuring a welcoming and hygienic environment for guests and employees. Reporting to the Janitorial Lead, the Janitor will also be responsible for setting up and breaking down layouts for rentals and other special events.Duties/Responsibilities:Cleaning restrooms, galleries, classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, corridors, elevators, stairways, lounges, and other work areas, as assigned. Assisting with museum special events, as needed. This may include setting up and taking down tables and chairs; emptying trash containers; and cleaning areas before, after, and during events.Sweeping, scrubbing, mopping and polishing floors. Emptying wastebaskets. Transporting trash and waste to disposal area. Vacuuming and cleaning rugs and carpets.Dusting furniture and equipment.Polishing metalwork.Washing windows, door panels, and sills.Cleaning bathrooms and replenishing supplies. Assists with the cleaning and managing of school lunch programs.Performs general guest services.Performs other related duties, as necessary. Minimum and Additional Requirements High school diploma1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to operate cleaning equipment, such as scrubbers and carpet cleaners. Must be able to access storage areas and lift up to 25 lbs.Able to stand and walk for up to an hour at a time.Weekdays, nights, and weekends required.Ability to follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications Customer service experience.Knowledge of how to properly carry out custodial, housekeeping or groundskeeping tasks.Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection practices, including MSDS and OSHA regulations. Prior knowledge of cleaning products and disinfection materials helpful.
