Martial Arts Instructor

Job DescriptionPosition Summary: LTYC is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Contractual Martial Arts Instructor to teach structured, age-appropriate martial arts classes for students in grades K-8. The ideal candidate will focus on promoting physical fitness, discipline, self-control, respect, and confidence through martial arts training. Classes may include techniques from disciplines such as karate, taekwondo, judo, kung fu, or mixed martial arts, adapted for a school setting. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.Key Responsibilities:Plan and lead engaging martial arts classes that build strength, coordination, discipline, and confidence.Teach foundational techniques including stances, strikes, blocks, forms, and self-defense basics, modified appropriately for children.Emphasize values such as respect, responsibility, perseverance, and focus.Incorporate physical fitness, stretching, and mindfulness into lessons.Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.Manage student behavior in alignment with the school's expectations.Prepare students for informal demonstrations or showcases (if applicable).Collaborate with staff for cross-disciplinary learning opportunities or events.Maintain cleanliness, equipment safety, and orderly classroom setup.Preferred Qualifications:Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to form trust-based relationships with learned and other stakeholders.Emotional Intelligence: Impeccable strategic, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and abilities. Attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines and streamline processes; while taking responsibility for process for improvement and accountability.Operational Excellence: Excellent computer skills, the ability to operate computers and possess basic knowledge of Google Suite, Quickbooks, MS Windows, Microsoft Word, and other software. Organizational skills with a high level of professionalism, enthusiasm, and customer service.Entrepreneurial Drive: Regular and consistent attendance, must perform duties with moderate direction given, operating from established directions and instructions. Able to self-motivate, self-regulate and make autonomous decisions. Able to comprehend purpose and drive to carry out directives independently and with a team.RequirementsQualifications:Black belt or equivalent rank in a recognized martial arts discipline.At least 3 years of prior experience teaching martial arts to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.Additional Requirements: Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).Certifications:Valid CPR & First Aid certification.Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).Health Clearance:A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health, free from communicable diseases (including TB).Background Check:Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
