The mission of the NAM is to be the voice for all manufacturing in the United States.Job Title: Summer Law ClerkDepartment: Legal & Human ResourcesDivision: LegalReports To: Litigation CounselFLSA Status/Level: Non-Exempt, InternLocation: DC HeadquartersStart Date: Monday, June 8End Date: Friday, July 31Position Summary:The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is looking for a currently enrolled first-year or second-year law school student (rising 2L or 3L) to join its Legal Center as a Summer Law Clerk. The NAM Legal Center litigates on behalf of the NAM's 14,000 member companies on a broad range of issues and advocates to policy makers on policies and legislation to ensure a level playing field for NAM members in the courts. The NAM's litigation program consists of direct legal challenges to federal regulations and other government actions, interventions in support of the government to defend sensible regulatory reforms and other pro-manufacturing actions, and the filing of amicus curiae briefs to bring the voice of manufacturers to the courts on precedent-setting issues. The legal issues and topics on which we engage are as broad and diverse as the members we represent, ranging from labor and employment, energy and the environment, product liability, class actions, immigration, tax, trade, intellectual property, manufacturers' free speech rights, False Claims Act, international issues, jurisdiction, administrative procedure, antitrust, arbitration, discovery, communications, insurance, and securities regulation. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Support our amicus program by drafting summaries of amicus briefs for internal and external stakeholders.Contribute to our weekly newsletter-sent to over 3,000 in-house counsel from manufacturing companies-by summarizing judicial, legislative and executive branch news pieces.Assist with the tracking and organization of NAM court filings.Research emerging issues in the legal reform space.Attend member briefings on salient policy issues and litigation facing the manufacturing community.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an accredited law school program.Outstanding academic record in relevant course work. Two references, preferably from a law school academic advisor or faculty member. Excellent writing, editing, critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills; writing sample is requiredAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Some experience in a business environment. Compensation: The law clerk will be paid $22.00 per hour and be expected to work approximately 35 hours per week.
