Assists with the fertilizer program and a maintenance program for the control of plant diseases and insects.• Professionally communicates with citizens when approached and assists them appropriately.• Communicates clear instructions to the floral crew of safety protocols, proper maintenance of plants and completion of all tasks.Supervision• Executes leadership and supervision responsibilities through sound judgment, focusing on quality improvement, and managing and resolving conflict.• Fosters a culture of accountability and defines responsibilities and expectations by setting goals.• Responsible for/assists with hiring and training of all seasonal, temporary and/or intermittent personnel. • Provides motivation, recognition, and feedback through performance appraisals, professional training and encouraging career development.• Supervises, plans, coordinates, and schedules daily activities of regular full time and temporary staff to ensure coverage for departmental needs. Additional coursework or certifications in horticulture, botany, landscaping, or related fields is a plus.Experience: No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided. Interest in horticulture, natural resources, or environmental stewardship. Customer service, teamwork, or volunteer experience in outdoor or community settings is helpful but not required.Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Email), and have a basic understanding of online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web-based platforms.Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.Position Type and Work Hours:• Seasonal: 40-hour work week: Four 10-hour workdays or five 8-hour workdays per week. Workdays typically begin at 6:00am• Season Start Date: May 4, 2026• Season End Date: November 1, 2026• Hours and days vary depending on depending on operational needs• Weekends and holidays may be requiredWork Environment: • Outdoors/Off-Site: Fieldwork throughout the City of Aspen, including parks, alleys, neighborhoods, and other City-managed properties; attendance at meetings, trainings, and conferences at a variety of City facilities. Position involves exposure to variable weather conditions in natural terrain.• Indoors: Occasional office work at City facilities for meetings, trainings, and administrative tasks.Physical Demands:Visual Acuity: Ability to bring objects into focus.Balancing: Maintaining equilibrium.Bending: Bending or position oneself to move an object from one level to another.Carrying: transporting or moving an object.Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
