Lakeside School, an independent, coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a full-time Upper School Library Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. The Library Assistant will work in close collaboration with the US Library department to support students in a bustling, inclusive, and vibrant library space serving 9th-12th graders. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with students and the library department to support the library's mission. This is a regular appointment, full-time, school-year staff position.Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities for this position are: General Space:Supervises and manages student behavior to support an inclusive and productive learning environment in the libraryMaintains the library's shared spaces, including tidying and straightening, and coordinating with the maintenance department as neededStaffs circulation desks on both floors depending on student schedules and library needsMaintains, organizes, and stocks supplies for student use (scissors, staplers, markers, etc.)Organizes and maintains library storage, work, and processing spaces and keeps an up-to-date inventory of library supplies, ordering supplies as neededAssists librarians in the preparation, installation, and maintenance of regularly-updated library displaysAnswers general directional questions for students and other visitors to the libraryAddresses basic printing questions and keeps library printer stocked with paper and tonerAssists with student color printing as necessaryProcesses US Library mail and packagesAssists with other library and school needs as necessaryCirculation and Collections:Maintains daily circulation procedures for all library materials, including processing all check-outs, check-ins, and patron holds using Follett's Destiny Library Manager.Maintains all shelving responsibilities, including reshelving returned and displayed books, regular shelf-reading, dusting, straightening for ease of browsing, and large-scale adjustments to the collection's layoutMaintains communications for all library account status issues (overdue notices, lost or damaged items needing replacement, Holds ready for pick-up, etc.)Answers basic questions from students and faculty/staff members about the library's print and digital resources (e.g. using and guiding students to successfully use the library catalog to find print materials, accessing the library's databases and librarian-curated LibGuides for particular projects, etc.)Processes all new and re-catalogued items, including covering books, printing and attaching library labels, assessing for damage, etc.Assists with copy cataloging newly-acquired fiction materialsRepairs damaged materials (minor page tears, reinforcing book blocks, reattached block to book spine, etc.)Inventories the library's cataloged resource collection and creates reports on any necessary follow-up (replacements, deletions, etc.) to maintain the collectionAssists with the collection of library usage information (door counts, space audits, etc.), as well as creating reports from library-generated and ILS-generated reports and statisticsDeaccessions library materials as necessary, including removing titles from the catalog, removing library markings, coordinating pickups, etc.Manages the library's print periodicals collection using distributor and individual vendor accounts, including attaching library labels to issues, tracking issues received, reporting any lost issues to receive replacements, etc.Assists with order tracking and reconciliation for the library's collectionCoordinates the annual ROAR employee book basket for the Parents and Guardians AssociationRequirements and QualificationsBachelor's degree or prior experience working in a library preferredPrior experience working with teenagers preferred; genuine enthusiasm for working with teenagers requiredAbility to work independently with strong time management skills to balance multiple ongoing tasks in a dynamic environmentAbility to work collaboratively within the department to assess, adjust, and create effective and meaningful library programs, collections, and spaces for studentsDemonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.Satisfactory completion of three criminal background checksCompensation and BenefitsThis is a full-time, benefited, salary non-exempt position expected to work from 8am - 4pm, Monday - Friday during the school year (approximately 37 weeks).
