GSA employees take great pride in their work and strive to provide the highest-quality service./n/n/n/nFor more information about the agency, please visit:County of Alameda, General Services Agency./n/n/nTHE POSITION/nUnder general supervision, to perform the work of a journey-level painter on the interior and exterior of County structures and to do related work as required./n/nFor more detailed information about the classification, please visit:Painter (#9240)./n/n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EITHER I:/n/nExperience: /nThe equivalent of four years full-time experience in the class of Building Maintenance Worker II in the Alameda County classified service (Non-classified includes District Attorney's Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)/n/nOR II:/n/nEducation: /nSuccessful completion of a recognized four-year apprenticeship in the painting trade./n/nAnd/n/nExperience: /nThe equivalent of one year recent, full-time, journey-level paid experience in interior and exterior painting of houses, commercial buildings or related structures for a licensed painting contractor. Additional experience as a journey-level painter may substitute for an apprenticeship on a year for year basis./n/n/nLicense: /nPossession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. /n/n/nSpecial Requirements: /nMust be able to lift and carry five gallon buckets of paint./nMust be able to climb and work from ladders or scaffolding./nMust be able to work in confined areas./nMust be able to wear a respirator./nMust comply with the medical surveillance program related to lead and asbestos, as required by OSHA/Cal-OSHA./n/nNOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination. /n KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:/n/n/nKnowledge of: /n/n/n/n Practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the painting trade, including the preparation of surfaces, the application of paints and paint products, the use and care of brushes and equipment, and the mixing and matching of paint products. /n Safety procedures. /n Staging equipment. /n Hazardous materials awareness (asbestos, lead paint, MSDS, etc.). /n Basic computer skills including knowledge of Outlook. /n/nAbility to: /n/n/n/n/n Use and maintain a variety of brushes, sprayers, tools and equipment of the painting trade. /n Harmonize, mix and match colors. /n Hang paper or vinyl. /n Assemble and stage equipment, including ladders, scaffolding and swing stages. /n Direct, lead and/or instruct non-journey level workers. /n Follow general and detailed verbal and written instructions. /n Establish and maintain cooperative working relations with employees and the general public. /n Plan, organize, prioritize and keep track of assignments and materials. /n Provide excellent customer service. /n Collaborate and coordinate with other trades. /n Follow safety and security procedures. /n Communicate clearly both orally and in writing. /n/n/n EXAMINATION COMPONENTS THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:/n/n/n A review of applicants' applications and supplemental questionnaire responses to verify possession of minimum requirements.
