Since opening in 1970, the Miami Transplant Institute has been dedicated to offering patients the best possible surgical, medical, and rehabilitation care. Miami Transplant Institute has been doing liver transplants for almost 50 years with more than 4,000 livers since 1988. We perform more than 125 liver transplants a year, one of the highest volumes in the country. Most importantly, our programs for both children and adults consistently rank among the nation's best in terms of patient outcomes.Position Summary:The Ventricular Assist Device Bioengineer provides technical and operational support to the Ventricular Assist Device Program, a division of the Heart and Lung Transplant Program. Among other responsibilities, the VAD Bioengineer will provide clinical support to physicians, VAD Coordinators and Sr. Bioengineer.Duties & Responsibilities:Responsible for assisting during implantation (i.e. pump assembly), explanation, calibration and preventative maintenance of all VAD systems. Provides logistical and technical support for VAD implants, explants, and invasive procedures (i.e. under anesthesia). Supervises the VAD operation for the duration of these procedures. Assist the VAD Coordinator and Sr. Bioengineer with patient teaching on the proper operation and management of the VADs. Provides on-call technical troubleshooting for inpatients and outpatients on VADs under the supervision of VAD-trained physicians. On call responsibilities include being present for VAD equipment emergencies, implants, explants, invasive procedures, as well as daily clinical rounds. Downloads log files for VAD related issues and performs device adjustments and annual VAD PMs. Orders and distributes equipment's and supplies and maintains an equipment inventory log (for hospital and patient-specific). Provides technical support to physician, VAD Coordinator and Sr. Bioengineer in the operation of the VAD. Attends (2) educational offerings or webinars scheduled via the MTI Quality Program or Ventricular Assist Device Program throughout the calendar year. Actively attends Programs monthly QAPI meetings and reports to committee as needed any quality related issues, concerns, or initiatives. Provides routine feedback to Program Leadership regarding quality related findings or patient care issues. Provides substantive feedback from a process and/or operational perspective during any multidisciplinary meetings and discussions. Assist Nurse Manager with performance improvement projects as indicated. Participates on the recommendation and implementation of new VAD medical technologies. Serves as a team member in at a minimum of (1) performance improvement project during the calendar year. Performs all other related job duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Experience:Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
