Purpose:The purpose of this position is to support the CVD Lab Manager and NDP Project Managers to ensure efficient operation of the CVD lab, planning and execution of plant trials, and implementation of manufacturing improvements. Essential Functions: CVD Lab:Work with lab team to carry out depositions of new materials in the CVD laboratory.Evaluate physical and chemical properties of coating precursors. Coordinate evaluation of chemical precursors.Design, procure, and modify equipment for CVD lab. Support construction and installation of new equipment for CVD lab.Troubleshoot CVD coaters and furnaces. Coordinate repair and maintenance needs with contractors or suppliers.Create SOPs for existing, new, and altered equipment.Complete risk assessments, root cause analysis, and corrective actions as needed in response to safety, quality, or environmental concerns.Plant Trials: Design, build, setup, and operate chemical delivery systems for plant coating trials. Coordinate repair and maintenance needs of trial equipment.Ensure that R&D chemical delivery equipment is compatible with existing plant systems and that it is ready for coating trials. Coordinate with plant personnel as needed to ensure functional set ups.Ensure operation of trial equipment is conducted safely by completing risk assessments, PFMEAs and developing safe procedures.Manufacturing Support: Support manufacturing plants during production campaigns of new on-line coated problems, etc.Assist manufacturing plants with coating equipment issues, coater rebuilds, processSupport implementation of manufacturing improvement initiatives.Audit manufacturing process at NA plants for coated products.Provide support to coating plants in NA and globally as requested by the business units.EHS and Quality SystemsAdhere to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.Adhere to EH&S policies at Northwood and at the manufacturing plants to ensure that all development work complies with these policies.Maintain Quality records in accordance with ISO9001 standards.Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and PrinciplesOther duties as assigned by managerTop 3 Competencies Needed for Success in the Role: Customer FocusedPassion for ExcellenceSafety & Quality FocusQualifications Required:Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, or related technical area. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).Proficient in the English language (verbal and written).Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (20-30%). Must be a creative, curious, innovative, self-starter.Qualifications Desired: Demonstrated ability to use hand-tools and operate process instruments. Experience with statistical methods, process control, measurement systems analysis (MSA), and/or statistical process control.
