Every candle we pour lights the path forward for a brighter future.Position SummaryBright Endeavors, the social enterprise of New Moms, is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Finance Manager to ensure the financial health and accountability of our growing organization. This role plays a key part in managing financial operations, supporting earned revenue reporting (including Medicaid and consulting services), and providing leadership with clear financial insights that support sustainable business practices and workforce development outcomes.You'll work closely with the Bright Endeavors team in East Garfield Park and also spend time at our main office in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago.Location: Bright Endeavors (627 N Albany Ave) with time spent at main New Moms Chicago office (5317 W Chicago Ave)Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week. Following training, this position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with at least 2-3 days/week on-site. Starting Salary: $60,000-$65,000 DOQWhat a Day Might Look LikeYou'll move between high-level financial strategy and hands-on accounting work balancing big-picture thinking with careful attention to detail. No two days are exactly the same, but a typical day might include:Reviewing accounts payable and approving vendor paymentsReconciling transactions in QuickBooks OnlineMeeting with the Operations Manager to review inventory trends and purchasing forecastsAnalyzing monthly budget variances and preparing a dashboard for leadershipFollowing up on Medicaid billing denials Depositing checks and ensuring cash flow tracking is up to dateUpdating financial Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve workflow efficiencyResponding to time-sensitive Slack or email communicationsKey ResponsibilitiesBright Endeavors Financial Management (75%)Lead all financial operations for Bright Endeavors, a social enterprise of New MomsPartner with the Operations Manager to forecast purchasing needs and manage vendor relationshipsOversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and performance analysis, including KPI tracking, variance reporting, dashboards, and financial modeling for new initiativesPresent actionable financial insights and recommendations to leadershipManage all accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, invoice processing, vendor payments, deposits, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly closeEnsure compliance with sales tax regulations, restricted revenue documentation, and audit requirementsDevelop, maintain, and improve financial systems, SOPs, internal controls, and digital recordkeeping (Google Drive & QuickBooks Online)Build staff and participant understanding of financial processes through training and toolkitsRevenue Billing (25%)Oversee billing for Medicaid, consulting services, and Bright Path (another New Moms social enterprise)Manage billing systems and clearinghouse softwareMonitor payer balances in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)Track denials, outstanding balances, and billing trendsCollaborate with contract managers and leadership to resolve claims before filing deadlinesGenerate detailed management reportsYou'll Thrive in This Role If You Are:A systems thinker who enjoys improving processes and creating structureComfortable moving between strategic financial analysis and detailed bookkeeping tasksConfident presenting financial information to non-finance colleaguesHighly organized and deadline-drivenAnalytical and naturally curious about trends, numbers, and performanceEnergized by working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environmentPassionate about using your financial expertise to support workforce development and social impactQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required; Master's degree preferredMore than 3 years of experience in small business accounting or financial managementExperience with accounts payable, sales, and inventory systemsProficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks (required)Experience with NetSuite, Shopify, or Katana (preferred)Other RequirementsValid driver's license, safe driving record, and insurance; Daily access to a reliable vehicleAbility to work occasional evenings and weekends as neededWork Environment: Must be able to sit/stand for up to 8 hours, walk stairs, and lift up to 50-60lbs (or perform with reasonable accommodation).
