Work Type: Remote, opportunity for in-office or hybrid if preferred. Position & Company Overview:New Ecology, Inc. is seeking candidates for the role of Market Research Intern at its Boston office. The intern will work part-time, at 10-hours per week, supporting the Green Building Division at assisting with the market research necessary to support , the creation and finalization of the Division's business development plan.This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in market research and analysis at the intersection of housing, civic development, and sustainability. The role focuses on evaluating trends, opportunities, and challenges across a range of building types including affordable housing, mixed-use developments, municipal projects, and more. within three key states: Massachusetts, Maryland, and Delaware. Interns will collect and synthesize data, analyze housing needs and cost trends, and contribute insights to inform business development planning and strategic initiatives. This position is ideal for students majoring in urban planning, real estate, economics, or related fields. The expectations include independent research with collaboration across cross-functional teams, providing exposure to green building practices, affordable housing policy, and real-world applications of market strategy.New Ecology, Inc. NEI's work reduces energy costs, improves health outcomes, preserves affordability, and builds community resiliency-helping partners move from fixing problems to building systems that last.Duties and Responsibilities: Market Research & Analysis Conduct primary and secondary market research to identify industry trends, market size, and growth opportunitiesAnalyze competitor strategies, pricing models, and market positioningResearch potential target markets and customer segmentsCompile and synthesize market-specific data into actionable insights and recommendations, including: Housing needs including affordable and market rate; rental and ownership Cost of Housing Trends Past, Ongoing, and Future Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)-funded projects Planned and future civic development projects Data Collection & Management Gather data from various sources, including industry reports, databases, surveys, and online research; to be maintained and updated, as appropriate. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the green building, business development, and marketing teams to align research with strategic objectivesParticipate in team meetings and contribute insights from research findingsCollaborate with cross-functional teams on market entry strategies and expansion plansSummarize and present research findings to internal teams and managementQualifications:The successful candidate will be currently pursuing or have recently completed a degree in urban planning, real estate, marketing, economics, data analysis, public policy, or a related field.A demonstrated ability to be responsible for projects, to work independently, and to improve the efficiency of methods is expected.Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to review and synthesize complex public data.Excellent written and verbal communication.Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets; comfort working with datasets and government databases.Self-motivated and organized, with keen attention to detail.Familiarity with housing policy or LIHTC programs is a plus but not required.Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.BenefitsHands-on experience in applied market research within the sustainability and housing fields.Exposure to nationally recognized practitioners in green building and affordable housing.Mentorship and professional development opportunities.Flexible schedule to balance academic and professional commitments.
