Job DescriptionCommunity Director Position DescriptionJob SummaryCommunity Directors (CDs) are professional staff members who live on campus and manage a residential area of approximately 350-700 students. Community Directors supervise between 8 and 20 undergraduate Resident Assistants and work directly with university partners to foster a high-quality, seamless student experience at Butler.Community Directors promote student agency and accountability while empowering residents to make healthy, informed decisions. CDs are asked to foster a community in their buildings and facilitate opportunities that support students' sense of belonging, academic success, and personal well-being. Work involves a variety of duties and responsibilities in administration of the Residence Life program. Several primary functions of this position include student support, programming, and after-hours response to student emergencies - frequent evening and weekend availability are essential and expected. Key positional responsibilities are listed below:Student Growth and Development - 20%Support students navigating the life cycle of relationships and complex interpersonal dynamicsSupport student leadership and campus engagement opportunities to enhance the residential and campus communityPromote community standards and serve as a conduct officer to adjudicate violations of Residence Life policies and proceduresCommunity Building and Support - 15%Support student programming initiatives and coordinate community eventsMaintain regular contact with students in residenceActively collaborate with Faculty in Residence and other community partners to support development of the residential communitySupervision - 15%Supervise, evaluate, and coach a staff of 12-19 undergraduate student staff Actively participate in the student staff recruitment, selection, and training process Student Well Being - 15%Conduct health & safety checks for students of concernProactively promote well-being resources on campus Locate and talk to students about ongoing issues Provide referrals to resources to address the student's concern(s) Follow up with students after distressing situationsAdministration & Management - 10%Maintain complete and accurate records regarding student and building concernsManage all community budgetsOn Call Duty Rotation - 10%Respond via phone & in-person to various emergency and crisis situationsCollaborate with emergency personnel and campus resources to provide student supportSubmit appropriate documentation to report concerns and actions takenSupport on-call student staffFacilities Management - 10%Execute all building related tasks including opening, closing, health & safety checks, and all needed maintenance activitiesWork closely with American Campus Communities or Butler Facilities based on the residential areaMaintain accurate records regarding occupancy, room changes, facilities concerns, and damage billing for the unitUniversity and Division Responsibilities - 5%Other duties as assignedRequired Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree required Demonstrated interpersonal skillsExperience working with and supervising college students Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formAbility to exercise sound judgment in making decisions Ability to diffuse and respond effectively to situations involving intense pressures and/or unpredictable persons Physical ability to climb stairs in order to reach the top floor of a residence hall in an emergency situation without assistance Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field preferred 2 years of residence life graduate assistantship experience and/or 1-year of professional experience working with residential studentsKnowledge of industry information management software (i.e. StarRez, Advocate, Navigate, etc.)Live In BenefitsFurnished apartmentUtilities & Internet providedParking pass for reserved parking areaMeal plan (Academic Year Only)Free LaundryGym membershipExpansive pet & partner policiesStarting Salary: $44,875About UsButler University is a private, nationally recognized comprehensive university encompassing seven colleges: Arts, Business, Communication, Education, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Pharmacy & Health Sciences and Founder's College.
