L2 Fiber/Cable Field Enginieer - Data Center

L2 Data Center Field Engineer needed for a Direct Hire position in Los Angeles, CA! The L2 Field Engineer leads field-based deployment and maintenance activities, applying advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex issues, coordinate tasks, and support junior engineers. The role ensures high-quality service delivery through proactive fault management, technical leadership, and adherence to engineering best practices. By combining hands-on execution with mentoring, the L2 Field Engineer enhances team capability and drives continuous improvement in technical performance.   The role combines precision fiber jumper operations in a live hyperscale data center with the wider technical duties of an on site field engineering lead. The position covers end to end installation, removal and testing of fiber, resolving connectivity faults, maintaining accurate cabling records, managing materials and change requests, and coordinating with operational teams to ensure safe, compliant delivery. You'll also handle broader Engineering tasks such as installation and commissioning work, first line maintenance, advanced fault finding, rack and cabling builds, and supporting junior engineers, all while upholding strict service levels, engineering standards and high quality operational practice. Main Responsibilities: Principal accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to: Provide First Line Maintenance support to the current customer base. Carry out installation and commissioning duties in both a project and maintenance environment. Respond to all interventions in a timely manner, ensuring as far as reasonably possible that all SLA's are met. Demonstrates extensive hands-on experience and advanced technical skills including: Transmission Systems (PDH / SDH / DWDM and Optical); Structured Cabling Competency (Installing and maintaining structured and fiber optic cabling to technical standards); IP WAN and LAN networking and VoIP, Knowledge and hands on experience of Testing protocols, including 10/100/1000Mbps, 10G, 40G & 100G; Voice, Data and IP services/networks in public and private sectors; Support Systems (AC/DC power, TSC and BMS systems). Experienced in the installation, configuration, maintenance and commissioning of Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Juniper, and Cisco equipment, plus an in-depth knowledge of networking, optical transmission systems and IP. Proven customer interface skills base on experience in similar environments. Excellent report writing abilities and fluent in written and spoken English. Able to work under pressure and positively influence others. PC literate, especially Microsoft Office 365 suite. Ability to manage own workload and meet all SLAs as required. Flexible approach to the role, with the ability to adapt and react to business needs. Full Valid Driving License
