Controller - Redwood City, CA Client: Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Position Type: Direct Hire Placement Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 days/week Compensation: + Base: 120K to 130K + Bonus: 20-25% + Equity: Employee stock + Estimated Total Compensation: $150K-$170K Overview This is an excellent opportunity for a strong Accounting Manager ready to step into a Controller role at a well‑established, employee‑owned manufacturing company. The Controller will lead all financial operations, including accounting, cash management, payroll, tax compliance, financial reporting, and administration of both the ESOP and 401(k) plans. We are looking for a hands‑on, detail‑oriented leader who excels in a dynamic environment and can balance strategic financial oversight with daily operational responsibilities. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Accounting Operations + Oversee monthly close: journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and bonus calculations. + Review month‑end and quarter‑end financial packages. + Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Cash Management & Treasury + Review/approve ACH and wire payments and A/P check runs. + Process A/R deposits; upload positive pay files. + Monitor unusual transactions. + Prepare weekly cash and investment reports. Payroll + Process salary payroll. + Prepare payroll registers, master control reports, and direct labor ratio reports. + Compile payroll worksheets for monthly financial statements. Tax Compliance + Process monthly prepaid Sales & Use Tax. + Prepare and file quarterly Sales & Use Tax returns. + Coordinate annual and quarterly filings with external CPA partners. 401(k) Administration + Administer plan applications, deductions, loans, and bi‑weekly contributions. + Manage employer match, reporting, employee statements, and annual census. + Oversee Form 5500 filings. ESOP Administration + Coordinate annual valuation. + Prepare audit documentation; handle allocations, distributions, loan payments, and census reporting. Compliance, Audits & Administration + Coordinate insurance audits and renewals. + Manage permits, licenses, and owner association bookkeeping. + Prepare materials for annual CPA audit. Qualifications + Strong tenure + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field + 10+ years progressive experience in accounting/finance + 5+ years in a leadership or supervisory role, managing 3 direct reports + Deep knowledge of GAAP + Strong payroll and tax compliance expertise + Proficiency with QuickBooks, NetSuite, and Excel + Exceptional accuracy, organizational skills, and communication skills + Demonstrated long-term tenure and stability in previous roles, with a track record of building and improving accounting operations over multiple years. + Manufacturing accounting experience required, including: + COGS + Standard & job costing + Inventory valuation + WIP + Variance analysis Preferred Skills + CPA or CMA + ESOP administration experience + 401(k) administration experience + Prior experience in manufacturing environments + Job cost accounting knowledge + Experience with software implementations Additional Details + Finance Director is retiring soon-this role will support the transition and continued company growth. + Must pass back-ground check and drug test during onboarding. + Company revenue: approximately $30M annually.
