Salary: $18.14 - $21.03 HourlyLocation : La Mirada City Hall, CAJob Type: Hourly/Part-time/At-Will-Non-DesignatedJob Number: 2025-43Department: Community ServicesDivision: RecreationOpening Date: 02/04/2026 Job DescriptionApprox. 25 - 35 hours per week (summer season)Approx. 10 - 25 hours per week (non-summer season)Hourly, Part-Time/At-Will PositionThis recruitment is open until the needs of the department are met and may close without prior notice.Under general supervision, provides support to the Community Services Department is a variety of programs, projects, and functions and may provide direction to staff and volunteers. Typical Duties Performed (These examples do not include all the duties which may be assigned). Plans, develops, conducts, and supervises a wide variety of activities for children, adults, and seniors including after school programs, sports, day camp, tournaments, games, and special events.Organizes, officiates, and instructs children and adult activities; teaches fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in recreational and sports activities.Assists in maintaining and cleaning City facilities.Sets-up facilities for sports leagues, classes, activities, reservations, and special events.May require driving city vehicle to carry out department business.May provide direction to Recreation Aides and volunteers.Assists in answering telephones, attending the public counter, answering inquiries, class registrations, collecting fees, issuing receipts, taking messages, greeting the public, and emergency situations, including administering first aid.Makes recommendations regarding the acquisition or replacement of equipment and supplies.Attends staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures; performs related work duties as assigned.Performs related duties as required or assigned. Minimum QualificationsMust possess excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of: Methods, practices, and equipment used in maintaining an effective recreational program. CPR, AED, and First Aid safety practices. English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition. Ability to: Organize, assign, and supervise children, adults, and seniors in a recreational program or City event. Organize and conduct recreational activities. Communicate clearly and concisely with program participants, the public, and staff. Utilize Windows based software. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, staff, and other agencies. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Must be at least 18 years of age and have graduated from high school or the equivalent. One year of recreation, education or related experience is pleted college level coursework in Recreation, Education, Physical Education or related field is desirable. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of a valid California Driver License is required.Possession of CPR, AED, and First Aid certificates are required within the first month of employment. Certification will be provided by the City. Supplemental Information Positions require availability to work varying shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
