SummaryResponsible for analyzing creditworthiness of borrowers and credit structure in order to prepare Underwriting portion of loan presentations for approval purposes. Analyses will include identifying strengths, weaknesses and trends, providing recommendations, spreading financial statements, assessing risk, providing statistics, and keeping up to date with compliance regulations and the economic conditions as they relate to commercial loans. Responsible for underwriting the most complex borrowing relationships. Requires use of independent judgment and decision making. Works with minimal direction. Provides assistance to newer underwriting staff. Additionally, promotes financial institution and its lending services to the community and helps to identify and serve the community's financial needs by participating in community activities.DescriptionThis position plays an integral role on the Commercial Banking Relationship Team. The individual will work directly with Bankers, Credit Officers, and other Underwriters to analyze new and existing commercial credit opportunities and support management of the loan portfolio. The successful candidate may attend client and prospect meetings, perform research in order to identify, quantify, and mitigate underwriting risk inherent in the borrower, industry, or loan structure. The candidate would be expected to develop strong working relationships with client management, internal teammates, credit officers, and other bankers. Senior Commercial Underwriters will be expected to provide mentorship to newer staff members, especially Credit Analysts and newer Junior Commercial Credit Underwriters.Specific Job DutiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Prepares in-depth, front-end analysis on credits, which includes reviewing all necessary financial information, discussing credit request and financial information with banker in conjunction with underwriting, credit preparation of credit approval documents. Analysis will include:Spreading annual and interim financial statements of companies Spreading annual personal financial statements and personal tax returns of owners/guarantorsReview or prepare and stress test projectionsIndustry research Identifies risk inherent in the relationship, loan structure, or industry and identifies methods to minimize the identified risk.Identifies policy and regulatory compliance issuesPrepares risk analysisAnalysis includes identification of risk(s) within the relationship, loan structure, or industry as well as methods to minimize the identified risk(s) or compensating factor(s) for the risks.Completes ongoing periodic credit servicing of loans within the portfolio including analyzing financial statements and reviewing ratio tests.Mentors junior members of the Underwriting teamProvides support for the Bank's sales efforts which may include selling and promoting Bank's services, as opportunities arise.Participates in the financial institution's community activities. Performs other duties, as assigned. Job RequirementsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; MBA preferred.Six years of commercial credit underwriting and/or portfolio management experience. A high school diploma or GED and ten years of related commercial banking underwriting experience may also qualify.Strong financial and analytical skills.Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.Strong oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers about the financial institution's loan programs and policies.Workng knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
