Sauron has raised an $27M seed round led by A* and Atomic with participation from other leading venture capital firms.The RoleSauron is creating a new paradigm in how homeowners interact with their properties and security systems. As a Mechanical Product Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading the mechanical design efforts for our security systems. You will drive the design, development, and iteration of premium hardware products from concept through hands-on prototyping and fabrication then onwards to manufacturing and installation, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of functionality, reliability, and design appeal.You will work alongside cross-functional teams including perception engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, sales, and security operations to deliver world-class products. As a design lead you will also work with external partners including industrial design, manufacturing, and installation.What You'll DoOverseeing the end-to-end conception, design, development, and implementation of our home security hardware systems.Generating concepts, CAD models, engineering drawings, and physical validation prototypes.Selecting and integrating appropriate sensor components to support perception systems for detection and deterrence needs.Collaborating with other engineering functions and with non-technical teams to ensure we are creating the best possible product for our clients.Utilizing rapid prototyping to validate designs and to test function, manufacturability, ease of install, and reliability.Overseeing manufacturing and assembly to ensure that designs are implemented in a manageable and cost-effective manner.Managing project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables for the hardware engineering team. If you're looking to solve challenging problems and reshape the face of security hardware, we want to talk.Your Background Includes5-10+ years of experience in product design and development, ideally with experience in perceptions or security systems, ideally within a startup environment or fast-growth hardware company.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or similar field.Proven experience leading design of products from concept to mass production.Proficiency in use of CAD software to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings.Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal forming, die casting, CNC machining, and product assembly. Application of product lifecycle principles, Design for Manufacturing/Assembly, and quality assurance techniques.Experience in rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, and rapid test/validation methods.Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with designers, product owners, engineers in other domains, and non-technical teams.Nice to HaveExperience with outdoor or weatherized product design, including knowledge of IP ratings, thermal management, and UV/corrosion-resistant materials.Familiarity with camera, LiDAR, radar, or other sensing technologies used in perception or autonomous systems.Background in consumer electronics or IoT hardware with a strong emphasis on industrial design and premium fit and finish.Exposure to wireless or power-over-ethernet (PoE) hardware integration within a product system.Experience designing for field installation - considering ease of mounting, cable management, and serviceability in real-world environments.Familiarity with security industry standards, certifications, or compliance requirements (e.g., UL, FCC, CE).Experience collaborating directly with industrial designers to balance aesthetics with engineering constraints.We Value1.
