Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe teacher reports to the Elementary Principal and works collaboratively with administrative staff, fellow educators, and parents to support each child's academic, social, and spiritual growth. A Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.The ideal candidate is a compassionate, mature professional who builds strong, trusting relationships with both children and adults. This teacher consistently models professionalism in appearance and conduct, demonstrating the leadership, stability, and character essential to contributing positively to the school community and the overall program.RequirementsRequired Qualities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Display a love for the Lord; support the mission of CAK, and possess a sincere, outgoing desire to serve all those associated with CAKRegularly attend and actively participate in a local Christian churchAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingWorking knowledge of the school: mission, philosophy, and day-to-day operationsAbility to work well with others, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and the communityDemonstrate flexibility during the busiest times of the year and when unexpected tasks ariseResponsibilities to students include:Be a role model for childrenValue diversity and provide, as much as possible, for individual needsTreat each child with dignity and respectBe empathetic and caringBe responsible for the planning, supervision, and implementation of the program for his/her class in accordance with the policies of the schoolEvaluate student progress in academics, social and emotional areasBe adequately prepared for the academic day with the childrenEncourage critical thinking and problem-solvingHelp each child develop a positive sense of self-worth, of independence, and a sense of responsibility and self-directionMaintain the confidentiality of individual studentsResponsibilities to the School include:Write weekly lesson plans and have them readily available for review by the PrincipalDeliver all instruction from a biblical worldview aligned with CAK's mission and valuesSubmit all records, reports, evaluations, inventories, etc., promptlyEnsure that the classroom is neat, well-organized and that bulletin boards are kept currentBe present in the school building at least one-half hour before school begins, preparing for the day; to be present in the classroom when students begin arrivingAttend all school and division meetings and recommended training programsAttend evening school events as requestedParticipate in conferences, courses, teaching demonstrations, and extra duties when requestedServe on various committees as requestedPrepare for and obtain a substitute when absent from schoolMake arrangements and request transportation for field tripsAssist with admission testing and observations, when requestedValue and support members of the school communityAdhere to all school policies as contained in the CAK Employee HandbookResponsibilities to parents and the community include:Conduct parent-teacher conferences, as well as meet with parents whenever necessary during the school yearReturn phone calls and emails promptlyMaintain confidentialityEncourage good parent-teacher relationsKeep parents informed by sending home regular newsletters, progress reports, etc.Be a role model in the communityResponsibilities for professional growth and development include:Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures, or other educational eventsAttain membership in appropriate educational organizationsKeep current on educational issues through research and studyParticipate in professional faculty and program evaluationsOther duties as assigned by Elementary Administration or the Head of School.The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) employee must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the school's mission and philosophy. The employee must be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity and the academic and leadership abilities necessary to teach God's truth. Skills in effective communication with diverse individuals, appropriately handling confidential information, and maintaining a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
