ABOUT THE ROLEThe Technical Drafter is responsible for producing precise, detailed, and accurate shop and layout drawings used in the design, production, and installation of concrete and masonry products. This role transforms customer blueprints and specifications into manufacturable drawings that support sales, estimating, and production teams. The Technical Drafter ensures all drawings meet company and industry standards, incorporates customer revisions, and communicates any design or specification changes that may affect cost, production, or installation.WHAT YOU'LL DOCreate detailed and accurate shop drawings and layout drawings from blueprints or other customer-supplied documents.Develop forms and drawings to assist sales and marketing in gaining market share.Incorporate customer revisions into original drawings and communicate changes that affect price and/or production.Maintain drawing standards and templates to ensure consistency and quality.Identify and robustly communicate discrepancies or potential issues in design or blueprints that could lead to customer dissatisfaction or additional expenses.Promote Takeoff, Estimating, installation, and connections across the team.Comply rigorously with all SOPs, company policies, procedures, and performance standards.Incorporate safety as a core practice and report any known safety issues to the appropriate personnel.Continuously pursue self-development by applying learning and technical innovation to departmental operations.Uphold and actively support the company's Core Values, mission, and strategies.WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOREducation & Experience2-year technical degree preferred, or equivalent technical certificateArchitectural drafting experience requiredTechnical SkillsProficient in AutoCAD (required)Basic SolidWorks ability, as neededMicrosoft Office - average working proficiencyCore CompetenciesAbility to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, professional journals, and financial reportsStrong mathematical aptitude: percentages, area, circumference, volume, proportions, and moreSkilled at defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusionsAbility to interpret technical instructions presented in mathematical or diagram formWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis role is primarily office-based with regular interaction with engineering, sales, and production personnel. Most tasks are performed at a desk using drafting and design software. Occasional visits to the production floor, warehouse, or job sites may be required to review products or confirm design details. Exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations may occur when visiting manufacturing or yard areas.Physical requirements include the ability to walk more than average distances, climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs., bend at the waist, and sit for extended periods.
