Senior Manager of CommunicationsPosition OverviewThe Senior Manager of Communications is GirlTREK's communications strategist, responsible for shaping how the organization tells its story to members, donors, partners, and the public. This role develops messaging and positioning, manages media relations, writes compelling copy across channels, and ensures all communications reflect GirlTREK's voice and values. The Sr. Manager provides strategic communications support to marketing campaigns, partnerships, and programs.Key Responsibilities1. Communications Strategy & Messaging (30%)Strategic Communications LeadershipDevelop messaging and positioning for GirlTREK across all audiences (members, donors, partners, public)Create content strategy - what to communicate, when, through which channels, and whySteward GirlTREK's brand voice, tone, and storytelling approachEnsure all communications reflect GirlTREK's values and cultural authenticityCoordinate communications across divisions to ensure consistent narrativeBrand Voice & MessagingDevelop and maintain brand voice guidelinesCreate messaging frameworks for programs, campaigns, and partnershipsEnsure consistency in how GirlTREK is represented across all communicationsAdapt organizational messaging for different audiences while maintaining brand integrity2. Media Relations & Public Relations (30%)Media Strategy & OutreachDevelop PR strategy and media outreach plans to increase GirlTREK's visibility and public profileBuild and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outletsIdentify media opportunities and story angles that advance organizational prioritiesPitch stories and secure media placements in target outletsMedia ManagementWrite and distribute press releases and media advisoriesRespond to media inquiries in a timely and strategic mannerCoordinate interviews and media appearances for leadershipPrepare leadership for media appearances including talking points and media trainingMonitor media coverage and track press mentionsThought LeadershipIdentify opportunities for op-eds, contributed articles, and thought leadership appearancesWrite or support development of thought leadership contentPosition organizational leaders as experts in Black women's health and wellness3. Content Development & Copywriting (30%)Marketing SupportWrite compelling copy for marketing campaigns developed by VP of Brand Partnerships & MarketingWrite and edit email copy for member journeys, campaign emails, and member communicationsSupport campaign development with strong messaging and storytellingEnsure all marketing copy aligns with brand voice and organizational valuesManage external comms vendors StorytellingDevelop compelling narratives about GirlTREK's impact, mission, and communityCreate member stories, testimonials, and impact case studiesWrite content that brings programs to life and inspires actionTranslate program work and data into accessible, engaging storiesPartnership CommunicationsWrite partnership announcements, press releases, and communications materialsSupport partnership activation with compelling messaging and copyDevelop content for partnership stewardship and reportingDonor CommunicationsSupport VP of Philanthropy with donor communications and campaign materialsWrite donor-facing content including impact reports, campaign appeals, and stewardship communicationsEnsure donor communications align with organizational messaging4. Crisis Communications & Issues Management (10%)Develop and maintain crisis communications protocols and templatesLead organizational communications response during crises or sensitive situationsCoordinate with leadership on messaging and response strategyManage issues as they arise with appropriate urgency and strategic thinkingConduct communications risk assessment and prepare for potential issuesQualificationsRequired:6-8 years experience in communications, PR, journalism, or related fieldExceptional writing and editing skills across multiple formats and audiencesMedia relations experience including pitching, press releases, and journalist relationshipsStrong storytelling abilities and narrative development skillsStrategic communications thinking and ability to develop messaging frameworksBrand voice stewardship and consistency managementAbility to write compelling copy under deadline pressureStrong project management and ability to manage multiple prioritiesWho you are:You are a talented writer who thrives in fast-moving environments.
