Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Chief of Plant Operations and/or the Director of the Diagnostic Center North, the Stationary Engineer performs a wide variety of skilled maintenance and engineering work at the full performance level including operation, installation, repairs, inspects and troubleshooting of heaters, boilers, pumps, valves, and appurtenances. The Stationary Engineer operates, installs, maintains, repairs, and inspects refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, traps, transfer pumps, expansion valves, stop valves, float valves, all refrigeration lines and devices, as well as troubleshoot system issues. The Stationary Engineer supports and performs the necessary skilled maintenance and engineering work at, Diagnostic Center, North (DCN), California School for the Blind (CSB) and California School for the Deaf (CSDF). You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement. Working Conditions Will work outside in inclement weather and in a temperature controlled environment with LED lighting. The incumbent uses both manual and powered tools and may be required to kneel, squat, bend, reach overhead/above shoulder level, sit, or use a ladder. This position may require accessing tight crawl spaces, climb on roof of buildings, or be on the ground on concrete or in dirt/mud. May predominantly walk, drive in golf cart, or stand, during normal working hours to perform daily duties, and may be required to lift and carry boxes or tools weighing up to 50 lbs. May be around blind or visually impaired students. May be required to drive state vehicle (e.g. golf cart). This position is also on an open school campus and will be around service animals. This position is located on a 25-acre school campus and is a part of the Fremont Block, which is comprised of the California School for the Blind, California School for the Deaf and the Diagnostic Center, Northern California. The entire Fremont Block is spans approximately 100 acres. This position has three pay differentials: Pay Differential 409 - Bay Area Recruitment and Retention Pay of 5% of the base salary Pay Differential 435 - EPA Section 608 Technician Certification Differential Pay of $100 per month, Pay Differential 515 - State Special Schools Recruitment and Retention Pay of 10% of the base salary. The pay differentials are not included in the salary as listed below. Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. The DCN operates from a "whole child" perspective focusing on the needs of the students we serve. The DCN is one of three regional assessment centers operated by the State Special Schools and Services Division of the California Department of Education. The Centers provide assessment, training, and technical assistance to all Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in California. The DCN offers highly specialized services in the following areas: * Comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessment and educational planning services to assist local school districts in determining the needs of their most complex students; * On-site technical assistance and consultation in program and instructional design based on the unique needs of each student; * Professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators and special education staff, including presentations at national, statewide, and local conferences and workshops, provided by specialists with "hands-on" experience; * Family education opportunities, including consultation, referral, and resource information.
