TOWN OF APEX invites applications for the position of: Police Records Technician ABOUT THIS POSITION: EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $46,238.40 - 56,638.40 WORK LOCATION: 205 Saunders Street, Apex, NC 27502 SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, In the office POSTING CLOSING DATE: April 14, 2026 at 7pm WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: An employee in this position performs a variety of specialized program support work in the Police Department which includes processing, entering, filing and researching police records, and communicating with the public and officers concerning records information. Work involves reviewing all reports (incidents, arrests, supplements, wrecks and traffic stop reports) for accuracy to ensure they meet requirements by state and departmental guidelines to ensure quality control. The Police Records Technician provides Department forms and reports to other agencies including other police departments, the Wake County District Attorney's office, the Department of Health and Human Services, state Probation/Parole agencies for investigative or discovery purposes. This position reports to the Police Records Supervisor. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS: * Reviews all reports (incidents, arrests, supplements, wrecks and traffic stop reports) to ensure they meet state, federal and departmental requirements. * Electronically submits incident and arrest reports and racial profiling forms to the State Bureau of Investigation. * Performs quality control on all information contained within the Records Management System (RMS) in order to ensure data is correct. * Runs monthly audit queries to identify errors on reports before submitting them to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). * Processes civil and criminal subpoenas. * Generates and maintain the Department's master case files; collects, copies and scans notes, photos and other documents related to master case files. * Serves as the central point of contact for the District Attorneys and provides them with requested reports, pictures, videos and Master Case Discovery. * Maintains confidentiality of personnel files, records and information. * Provides exceptional customer service by answering questions from the public about records and provides reports via phone, email or facsimile. * Completes data entry for parking tickets, warning tickets, paper citations and subpoenas. * Processes court expungements as received by the Wake County Clerk's Office. * Performs local background checks as needed. * Provides general technical assistance to other staff on RMS; assists officers with report and systems issues. * Performs related duties as required. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: High School Diploma or GED and less than one year of related job experience. Special Qualifications Notary Public within one year of hire. DCI Modules 1 & 2 within one year of hire.
