With a positive attitude, strong leadership techniques, and with minimal oversight, the Supplier Quality Engineer leads all 3rd party plant audits, supplier quality activities and supports the operations organization. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with other team members to improve supplier relations and reduce cost of quality through waste reduction and process control. The Supplier Quality Engineer will report directly to the Quality Director.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Utilize quality engineering principles to assure the quality of supplied componentsUtilize experience and quality engineering principles to develop strategy and tools for supplier quality system as well as drive supply chain management continuous improvementLead cross functional teams to execute root cause problem solving of quality events at production and service level and implement corrective/preventative actionsActively collaborate with Suppliers, purchasing, Engineering, and Plant Quality to lower the number of supplier non-conformances and reduce overall supplier PPMIdentify high risk suppliers and develop/drive execution of a quality performance improvement planPromote the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and continuous improvement techniques at suppliers to reduce variability and monitor process controlPerform Quality System Audits at suppliers and initiate corrective actions to ensure adherence to our requirements as well as drive supplier development needsSupport Onboarding new Suppliers in collaboration with sourcing team and supplier development to ensure that prospective suppliers are effectively assessed for their ability to dependably deliver quality parts, on time to the customer's needsReview supplier process change requests (PCR) and collaborate with cross functional teams to understand the risk as well as determine requirements for validationReview designs / components determined as high risk for correct identification of Key Product Characteristics (KPCs) and correct application of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing to ensure measurement and manufacturing feasibilityCollaborate with Suppliers and Engineering during design reviews to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM)Assist Suppliers to maintain 100% PPAP compliance for all Preproduction buildsTrain suppliers to effectively execute PPAPs, APQP and Corrective Actions on timePerform process and production readiness assessments at supplier facilities for high-risk suppliers/components. Report and drive closure to status and action plans on deficienciesProvide support and feedback to Business Units when determining existing supplier suitability for future business awardsProactively develop improvement activity to meet the department goals and corrective action effectivenessRequirements, Skills, & Knowledge:BS Degree in Engineering or Technical fieldMinimum 3 years of experience in quality engineering or manufacturing engineering with preferred knowledge of plastics, casting and machining or harnessesStrong technical problem-solving skills, including the ability to write technical reportsAdvanced knowledge of quality related tools including, but not limited to, SPC, APQP, 8D, PPAP, DOE, CAPA, MSA, PFMEA, Control Plans and Quality SystemsManufacturing and Assembly experienceKnowledge of standard lean tools and conceptsStrong facilitation and presentation skills.Skill in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolutionPerform successfully in a high change environment; Able to quickly and effectively transition between tasksAbility to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environmentAbility to prioritize multiple projectsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Aptitude to read and interpret blueprintsAbility to use gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirementsAbility to multi-task and willingness to be flexible with time and schedule as to assure availability to customer or company as circumstances demandCommunicate honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skillsCapability to analyze, process and apply large amounts of complex informationUtilize advanced statistical analysis and sound problem-solving skills when neededAbility to lead teams to produce the expected results for continuous improvement
