OrganizationLocated on the SMU campus in Dallas, Texas, the George W. Essential ResponsibilitiesThe Creative Technologist is responsible for the development, design, and execution of innovative digital experiences that advance the Bush Center's storytelling, audience engagement, and content strategy. This role blends full-stack engineering, AI-enabled systems development, multimedia production, and writing to support the Communications Team and the broader organization. Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:Digital Platforms, Mobile Applications & Engagement ToolsLead system development and implementation for ongoing customization and improvement of the Bush Center website, ensuring alignment with brand, mission, and audience engagement goals.Lead the strategic development and potential launch of a Bush Center mobile application, including defining user experience, technical architecture, engagement objectives, and long-term scalability.Design, build, and maintain front-end and back-end web and mobile components and digital tools that integrate across a number of systems including CRM and commerce.Design and develop audience-facing engagement tools across web and mobile platforms, including interactive features, event engagement utilities, personalized content experiences, and digital storytelling modules.Collaborate with Communications, Marketing, and IT to ensure secure, scalable, high-performing, and cost-effective digital infrastructure.Integrate analytics, performance measurement tools, and audience insights to inform ongoing optimization.Prototype and implement interactive digital features that enhance storytelling and user experience.Evaluate emerging digital platforms and engagement technologies to ensure the Bush Center remains innovative and responsive to audience expectations.Podcast & Multimedia ProductionLead the technical production of the Bush Center's podcast, including video-integrated formats.Design and maintain scalable workflows for recording, editing, and publishing audio and video content.Leverage AI-enabled tools to enhance editing, transcription, clipping, and content distribution.Ensure high production quality aligned with brand standards across all platforms.AI-Enhanced Content Systems & InnovationEvaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI tools, to improve storytelling, efficiency, and audience reach.Build and deploy innovative digital solutions that support content creation and distribution.Serve as a strategic thought partner within Communications to identify opportunities for digital innovation.Maintain ownership of digital experimentation initiatives, including pilot projects and prototypes.Writing & Digital StorytellingDraft digital-first content including website copy, podcast show notes, landing pages, and multimedia scripts.Translate complex policy or institutional content into accessible, engaging formats for diverse audiences.Collaborate closely with Communications leadership to ensure narrative cohesion across platforms.Cross-Functional Collaboration & Strategic LeadershipPartner with Communications, Marketing, and IT teams to align digital initiatives with organizational priorities.Present recommendations regarding digital platforms, content systems, and innovation strategy to senior leadership.Exercise ownership over digital storytelling innovation strategy within Communications.Complete other duties and special projects as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe qualified candidate will possess (a):Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.Minimum of three to five years of professional experience in creative technology, full-stack development, digital media production, or related field.Demonstrated proficiency in modern web development frameworks and languages (e.g., JavaScript frameworks, Python, CMS platforms).Experience implementing AI-enabled tools and workflows.Strong multimedia production skills, particularly video production and editing.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Commitment to the mission and vision of the Bush Center.Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional environments.Excellent project management and execution skills.Additionally, the qualified candidate will:Operate as a strategic thinker who can translate organizational objectives into scalable digital solutions.Possess strong editorial judgment and brand sensitivity.Demonstrate creative problem-solving ability with a bias toward action and iteration.Retain the ability to balance innovation with disciplined execution.Be a calculated risk taker while maintaining accountability for deliverables.Exhibit exceptional attention to detail across both technical and creative outputs.Be able to maintain regular, dependable attendance at the office.Engage with a collaborative, solutions-oriented style and thrive in a team-based environment.
