Substitute Teacher

Job descriptionPosition Description The Lower School Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role supports the academic and social-emotional needs of students in grades PreK-5 and upholds the school's mission and values.Responsibilities • Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning environment in accordance with school policies and Lower School expectations. • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring continuity of instruction and student engagement. • Organize students for practical instruction and support transitions throughout the day. • Complete a Substitute Teacher Report Form to communicate with the regular teacher about the day's activities and student progress. • Collect and organize student work for the regular teacher's review. • Communicate professionally with students, faculty, and staff. • Comply with and support all school regulations, policies, and procedures. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lower School Division Head or designee. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree required; coursework or experience in elementary education preferred. • Prior experience working with children in a school or educational setting. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to follow lesson plans and adapt to classroom needs. • Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility, and reliability.Physical Requirements/Working Environment • May be required to stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods. • Work in a dynamic school environment with young children and a variety of classrooms. • Work primarily in a climate-controlled classroom; may occasionally work outdoors. • Must be able to lift and carry materials up to 25 lbs.
