Job Description: Middle School Science Teacher Location: Carolina Charter Academy Reports to: Assistant Principal and Lead Administrator/Principal Position Summary: Carolina Charter Academy is seeking a passionate Middle School Science Teacher to inspire curiosity and scientific thinking in students grades 6-8. The teacher will deliver engaging instruction in life science, physical science, earth/space science, and related topics, aligning with state and national standards while emphasizing hands-on experimentation, inquiry-based learning, and real-world applications. Key Responsibilities and Essential Duties: Develop and implement dynamic lesson plans for science curriculum, incorporating labs, demonstrations, and technology. Teach core scientific concepts, processes, and skills while promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based reasoning. Maintain a safe laboratory and classroom environment; oversee experiments and ensure proper use of equipment and materials. Assess student understanding through quizzes, projects, lab reports, and standardized measures; provide feedback to support growth. Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learners and integrate cross-curricular connections (e.g., math, literacy). Encourage student interest in STEM fields through engaging activities, discussions, and potential extracurricular opportunities. Communicate with parents about student progress, lab safety, and science-related events weekly. ? Collaborate with other teachers on interdisciplinary units and school science initiatives. ? Stay current with science education best practices and participate in relevant professional development. Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of office equipment and classroom tools such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to use Google Workspace efficiently. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field (Master's preferred). Valid state teaching certification/license with middle school science endorsement Experience teaching middle school science or conducting lab-based instruction is preferred. Strong knowledge of middle school science standards and inquiry-based pedagogy. Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for science and ability to make complex concepts accessible and exciting for adolescents. Employment Terms: Full-time, 10-month position. Salary aligned with Carolina Charter School salary schedule and NC licensure level. Benefits eligibility per school policy.
