Head Electrical Dept. Pay Grade: DO 4 Dept./School: Facility Services/Service Center Date Revised: Feb 2026 PRIMARY PURPOSE: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical systems and fixtures in district facilities. Qualifications: Education/Certification * High School Diploma * Valid TX Driver's License * Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier Special Knowledge/Skills: * Proficient in calculating, organizing, and lining up jobs to be done from small amount of information * Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors * Knowledge of current electrical codes and ordinances * Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material * Ability to follow written and verbal instructions * Ability to perform mathematical calculations * Ability to diagnose and resolve problems * Ability to use hand and power tools Preferred Experience: 2 (two) years experience as electrician apprentice MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Maintenance and Repair 1. Demonstrate a level of proficiency in the electrical trade that will allow you to perform some work unsupervised by a Journeyman Electrician. 2. Assist in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, fire alarms, security alarms, intercom, and sound systems. 3. Perform any combination of measures, cuts; bend wire and conduit using ruler and hand tools. 4. Assist in the installation and maintenance of CATV and CCTV systems. 5. Assist in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects. 6. Assist in maintaining tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order. Safety 7. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety. 8. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not Immediately correctable to supervisor. 9. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure that equipment is in safe operating condition. EQUIPMENT USED: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; hand tools; power tools; light truck or van WORKING CONDITIONS Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel.
