Salary: $19.78 HourlyLocation : Tyler, TXJob Type: Regular Full-timeJob Number: 995195 - 995196Department: Solid WasteOpening Date: 03/04/2026 Purpose Of PositionTo operate a solid waste disposal truck in order to pick up, load and dispose of garbage, recycle materials, or non-combustible rubbish from residential and commercial locations. Essential Functions Drive disposal truck to collect solid waste or recycle from residences and commercial stops.Operate controls on trucks.Load garbage or recycle as needed.Deliver and dump waste at landfill or recycle materials at approved material recovery facility.Check for repairs and perform minor maintenance on trucks.Oversee vehicle maintenance.Supervise crew members.Train helpers in safe method of work.Fill out daily report(s).Repair and maintain carts; deliver or retrieve carts from customers; assist and help maintain cart inventory.Provide exceptional customer service to customers.Ensure that carts are placed back at the curb properly and pack out carts are returned to the proper location.Other duties as assigned.Needed Skills:Must have knowledge of operation of disposal truck; mechanical operation of truck; and Tyler city streets and route to be covered.Must have knowledge of safety requirements and practices and be able and willing to apply to work performance.Must have knowledge of filling out reports; rules and regulations of city streets; and knowledge, ability, and skill to distinguish between trash, garbage, and hazardous waste.Must be able to communicate effectively with management, employees, and the general public, using a telephone or radio.Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language and carry out oral and/or written instructions.Must be able to stand, walk, sit 4-10 hours daily; lift, carry, push, pull, balance, reach, and handle 75 lbs. for several minutes; supervise crew members; operate safely; climb in and out of truck frequently.Must have stamina to work 10 - 12 hours daily if necessary. Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: Must have over one (1) year of experience driving a dump truck, garbage truck or a hauling vehicle. Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with air brake endorsement and clear driving record.High school diploma or GED preferred.
