Aquatic Specialist I (PT)

ABOUT OUR JOB Parks Make Life Better! The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for Aquatic Specialist I (PT) in the Parks & Recreation Department. Come join the fun! Aquatic Specialist I are entry-level positions in which incumbents are responsible for the safety and general welfare of the public at the Walter Graham Aquatic Center and will provide instruction in swimming and a variety of water fitness courses, in addition to lifeguard duties. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: * Maintaining order and enforcing established rules and safety procedures; * Scanning designated swim area constantly to ensure patron safety; * Making frequent facility checks and maintaining facility cleanliness; * Performing First Aid and CPR techniques, in addition to water rescue and safety procedures; * Instructing and interacting with aquatic program participants of all ages; * Performing facility and equipment set-up, take-down and general housekeeping; * Opening and closing facilities; * Performing reception, cashiering, cash handling and recordkeeping duties as required; and * Attending mandatory in-service trainings. Six (6) months of experience in an aquatics environment as a competitive swimmer, lifeguard or swim instructor is desirable. Certification: Must possess and maintain the following American Red Cross certifications: * Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer * Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel certification within 12 months of hire Desirable Certifications: * Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent * Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel Certification requirements are a condition of initial and continued employment. Must be at least 15 years of age by time of employment.
