Position: Pro Bono Innovations Fund Intern Location: Washington, DC 20006Department: Office of Program Performance (OPP)Employment Status: Full-Time | Unpaid | Hybrid | DC-Metro Area Only OVERVIEW: Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country's single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds independent legal aid offices nationwide. LSC's mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance to low-income Americans.LSC's Office of Program Performance (OPP) is responsible for overseeing LSC's grant-making and monitoring processes to ensure grantees deliver high-quality legal services to eligible clients. OPP administers competitive grant programs and evaluates grantee performance through desk reviews, onsite reviews, and data-driven oversight. OPP also manages specialized grant programs like the Pro Bono Innovation Fund, which encourages creative and impactful pro bono legal services models.The internships are based in Washington, DC, and will require working from an office in DC in accordance with LSC's hybrid work model. The successful candidates must live in the DC metropolitan area for the duration of the internship. If applicable, we're happy to provide documentation to support academic credit.Although this internship is unpaid, here's what you'll gain:Hands-on experience supporting national grantmaking and oversight processes that fund civil legal aid programsExposure to how LSC evaluates grantee performance and ensures accountability and impactMentorship and insight from professionals in legal services, program evaluation, and public interest workOpportunity to work on the Pro Bono Innovation Fund, helping advance creative and scalable legal service modelsA unique opportunity to contribute to efforts that expand access to justice for low-income communities nationwideThe internship is expected to run from June through August 2026, with interns working up to 37.5 hours per week on a full-time basis.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN & DO:As a Program Performance Intern, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of LSC's grantmaking and oversight functions.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Assist with coordination of grant review processes and materialsReview and help assess funding applicationsSupport data collection and reporting using Smartsheet and ExcelConduct research on legal aid delivery, grantees, and innovative pro bono modelsDraft and edit documents, reports, and templatesMaintain organized electronic files and recordsPerform other duties as assignedWHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:We are accepting applications from current undergraduate, graduate, and law students, as well as recent graduates of post-secondary institutions.
