Job Description

Ravenscroft School is seeking a Private Guitar Lesson Instructor to provide high-quality private instruction to students in grades 4-12. This part-time role supports the school's Fine Arts program by delivering individualized, literacy-based guitar instruction, fostering student growth, and preparing students for performance experiences throughout the academic year.This position is ideal for a skilled and student-centered guitar educator who is passionate about teaching learners of varying ages and abilities, values strong communication with families, and enjoys contributing to a collaborative and growth-oriented music community.Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneWhat You'll DoTeach private guitar lessons to up to 10 students in grades 4-12 on a rotating basis throughout the academic yearEstablish and maintain a consistent lesson schedule in accordance with the Private Lesson Scheduling Rules and Guidelines and the school's 8-day rotationDesign and implement a literacy-based curriculum grounded in guitar pedagogy, technique, and musical applicationPrepare students for at least one required performance each academic yearProvide regular feedback to students and families, including written feedback through comments and rubrics twice annuallyCommunicate proactively and professionally with students, families, and relevant facultyCreate lesson assignments and support consistent student practice and progressAssist students and families with instrument rental or purchase, as well as basic instrument care, tuning, and maintenanceServe as a Recital Manager and Recital Class Clinician for at least one Private Lesson Recital and one Private Lesson Recital Class during the academic yearMaintain accurate records and uphold a positive, professional, and collaborative studio environmentDemonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learningA full list of essential functions and additional details will be shared during the interview process. QualificationsRequired: Minimum of 3 years of successful private guitar teaching experience with students in grades 4-12Bachelor's degree in Music or Music EducationStrong proficiency as a guitarist, with performance experienceDemonstrated knowledge of guitar pedagogy, instructional approaches, and techniqueExperience teaching a broad range of musical stylesAbility to motivate students and adapt instruction for varying developmental levels and abilitiesStrong professionalism, organization, communication, and collaboration skillsWillingness to serve as Recital Manager and Recital Class Clinician as outlinedPreferred: 5 or more years of private guitar teaching experience, including preparing students for recitalsBachelor's or Master's degree in Music or Music Education with Guitar as a primary instrumentExperience providing literacy-based (non-rote) instructionDemonstrated interest in teaching both beginning and advanced learnersExperience fostering a positive and nurturing studio cultureExperience developing or expanding a guitar program in a school or community settingWork Environment and Physical Demands: This role is based on Ravenscroft's campus and involves working in music studios, classrooms, and performance spaces. The position requires standing and sitting for extended periods, working with instruments, and moving throughout campus.
