Job Description

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB: Responsible for victim services provided to victim/witnesses in the juvenile and adult criminal justice system ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: 1. To ensure that crime victims are afforded their rights under the Pennsylvania Victim's Bill of Rights 2. To ensure that victims have an opportunity for active input in the adjudication and disposition of the case 3. To be available to provide case status information to victims of crime 4. To be able to provide case status information to victims of crime 5. To provide orientation to the criminal and juvenile justice system 6. To provide court accompaniment, especially in cases of serious personal injury, feloniously assaultive crimes or extensive property loss, to persons involved in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System. Court accompaniments extend to family members of victims as well as witnesses 7. To be responsible for making certain that all appropriate notifications are sent to victims. This includes notifications requested by victims 8. Assist victims and their families in preparing victim impact statements 9. Disseminate information to victims regarding the availability of Victims Compensation Assistance Program and assist, when appropriate, in completing the claim form and following the award/review process 10. Provide crisis intervention, supportive counseling and referrals, as necessary, to victims of crime 11. To provide assistance to other Victim/Witness Services, as needed, in order to collectively ensure the best possible victim service in Westmoreland County 12. Accurately document services provided in required computer systems and databases OTHER DUTIES OF JOB: 1. Attends meetings, training and seminars as required. 2. Performs other job duties as assigned and required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives direct supervision from Victim/Witness Coordinator SUPERVISION GIVEN: None WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Works indoors in adequate office space, with adequate lighting, temperatures and ventilation. 2. Works within average exposures to noises and stress, subject to frequent disruption. 3. Works within average indoor exposures to dust and dirt. PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS: 1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of walking and sitting. 2. Must be able to execute frequent periods of bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting and reaching to carry out job duties. 3. Dexterity requirements range from fine manipulation of fingers/hands to coordinated movements of feet/legs/torso to maintain balance. 4. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of up to 20 pounds. 5. Possess an automobile to travel to required job training 6. Must complete 10 hours of ongoing training per year QUALIFICATIONS: To do this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/TRAINING: Associate's degree in criminal justice and/or Social Work-related field B. WORK EXPERIENCE: 1 year of experience or training in victim services or related field which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in a proficient manner in order to carry out essential job duties. 2. Must possess the ability to supervise others, delegate tasks and provide daily direction to assigned employees. 3. Must possess excellent organizational skills, presentation skills and communication skills (both oral and written). 4. Must possess the ability to speak in front of large groups and present information in a satisfactory manner. 5. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with the public, co-workers and others. 6. Must possess the technical knowledge to operate computers, utilize multiple software programs and other equipment at an intermediate to advanced skill level. 7. Must possess the ability to multi-task. 8. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. 9.
