With our passion, creativity, and innovation, "We capture what moves". We have an exciting new opportunity to hire an experienced Fermentation Process Scientist at our Menomonee Falls, WI facility. This role will lead the transfer and scale-up of fermented products and processes to commercial production. This role involves leading efforts to improve or define fermentation kinetics for current and proposed processes through flask and pilot fermentation studies, utilizing four 20-30 L pilot-scale fermenters. The Scientist will work closely with MANE's R&D group, tolling customers' technical experts, engineering, and production staff to drive technological improvements and provide technical support. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Process Development & Scale-Up • Lead the transfer and scale-up of fermentations and product recovery processes for a variety of bio-products, including flavor molecules, enzymes, proteins, and cultures. • Focus on the transfer of new processes and the optimization of existing ones by performing trials on shake flasks, pilot systems, and production-scale fermenters. • Perform laboratory experiments, including the operation of lab fermenters, to develop or validate new and improved processes. Data Analysis & Optimization • Analyze process deviations during transfer and propose corrective actions to ensure robustness, reproducibility, and consistency of results. • Perform analytical follow-up on fermentations and conversions (using tools such as GC and HPLC) to evaluate productivity, selectivity, and reproducibility. • Interpret results to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and ensure accurate reporting and data traceability to support decision-making15. • Aim to improve product yield, efficiencies, economics, and safety through rigorous data analysis and innovative solutions. Operational Support & Collaboration • Work in concert with engineering and production staff to address plant technological improvements. • Provide technical support to the production department, including process troubleshooting and optimization. • Collaborate with chemical operators, maintenance staff, and co-workers to troubleshoot production problems. • Train production staff in new and existing processes as required. • Incorporate safety considerations and environmental controls into all aspects of duties. • Other duties in support of company objectives• Consistent with MANE's environmental commitments, every employee shall actively participate in relevant education/training based upon corporate and local environmental objectives. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:• Required: Master of Science in Biology, Biochemistry, or Microbiology. • Preferred: Ph.D. in a relevant field.• Minimum of 10 years of experience in lab and industrial fermentation scale-up and production. • Experience with both prokaryotic and eukaryotic fermentations is required. • Demonstrated excellence in communication, analytical, and practical skills.MANE offers industry leading benefits including a generous PTO plan.
