Employee is counted on to assist in establishing treatment system parameters along with safety guidelines for chemical deliveries, handling, and storage to ensure a safe work environment. Operators at this level know the physical, chemical, and biological processes involved in water treatment and their effects on water quality. These operators can work independently to ensure the consistent production of safe aesthetically pleasing water for human consumption and industrial use. Operators at this level are familiar with Federal and State requirements governing the operation of a Community Water System and can provide supervision to lesser qualified operators.Candidates will be considered for the following positions based on experience and qualifications.Water Plant Operator Trainee$22.89 - $35.97 Hourly$47,617.11 - $74,826.89 AnnuallyWater Plant Operator$24.72 - $38.85 Hourly$51,426.00 - $80,813.00 AnnuallySenior Water Plant Operator$28.84 - $45.32 Hourly$59,984.00 - $94,260.00 Annually Examples of Duties Performs skilled operational and regulatory work in the testing and treatment of City water in compliance with all applicable City, State and Federal regulations and guidelines.Performs basic, routine, and complex preventative maintenance and repair duties in the operation of Lime softening and Membrane process water treatment equipment and facilities, e.g., Production Wells, pumps, tanks, aerators, Sand strainers, cartridge filters, up-flow Clarifiers, pre/post treatment chemical metering systems, Gravity filters, Membrane trains, Degasifiers, motors, pulleys, drive belts, cleaning systems, waste material, concentrate disposal, and chemical handling.Performs and records chemical and pressure sampling and laboratory testing; calculates results/readings; ascertains treatment performance and quality; performs appropriate equipment adjustments and calibrations.Monitors and sets chlorine feed regulating equipment to obtain proper chemical dosages.Operates and maintains pump stations; records daily pump readings, e.g., pressure, flow, time, chemical usage, pump function/operation; perform corrective measures to pump operations and settings as necessary.Performs clerical duties, e.g., data entry; generates spreadsheets for process control; prepares various reports; performs calculations, runs quantitative/qualitative analysis and interprets data for performance evaluation.Performs routine preventive maintenance such as lubrication, painting and general housekeeping, various maintenance and purging duties, e.g., cleans algae from clarifier overflow weirs; cleans mechanical aerators and diffuser; cleans pumps, pipes and plumbing apertures.Monitor SCADA Systems and adjust controls to remotely regulate flow rates, maintain storage levels, and distribution system pressures. Typical Qualifications Water Plant Operator Trainee- High school diploma or GED.- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.- Must have recently successfully completed or currently be enrolled in a State of Florida approved training course for water treatment plant operation.Water Plant Operator- High school diploma or GED.- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.- Florida Class "C" Drinking Water Plant Operator's License.- One (1) to three (3) years responsible experience in water treatment facility operations.Senior Water Plant Operator- High school diploma or GED.- Florida Class "A" Water Operator's License.- Five (5) years of responsible experience in utilities operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.Preference will be given to applicants who already possess the State of Florida Class "C" or higher Operator License in Water Treatment and who possess experience in membrane water treatment processes.
