The ideal candidate will bring a strong knowledge of early childhood education, a commitment to differentiated instruction, and a deep understanding of child development. This teacher will design and deliver engaging lessons, foster a positive classroom environment, and collaborate closely with families and staff to ensure student success.As a Preschool Teacher in our district, you will play a critical role in shaping a strong foundation for our students. You will also be expected to model the values and mission of Garfield Heights City Schools and actively contribute to the growth of our preschool program.NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importanceEssential Functions:Ensure student safety at all timesPrepare and implement lesson plans that align with district and state standardsEvaluate student learning through regular assessments and maintain accurate recordsAdapt instruction to meet individual student needsCreate a positive and developmentally appropriate classroom environmentServe as the lead teacher for preschool programmingCollaborate with families through conferences, communication, and resource sharingParticipate in assessments (e.g., play-based, specialized testing) to support student developmentMaintain and submit required documentation including lesson plans, data reports, and incident reportsSupport student transitions and behavior management in alignment with PBISIncorporate technology and innovative teaching strategies into classroom instructionAssist in writing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Multi-Factored Evaluations (MFEs) when applicableAttend meetings, parent-teacher conferences, in-services, and professional developmentProvide materials, supervision, and guidance for students, aides, tutors, and student teachersOther Duties and Responsibilities:Participate on building, teacher-based, or district-level teamsPerform home visits when necessaryServe on school committees or extracurricular activitiesSupervise and mentor student teachers and classroom aidesPerform classroom duties including discipline, documentation, and reportingAssist in textbook and resource selectionCollaborate with other preschool teachers to improve program qualityMaintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional ethicsWrite grants to support classroom and program needsAct as a positive role model for students and familiesCarry out additional duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Supervisor, or designeeAbout You:Valid Ohio teaching license (Early Childhood Education or Pre-K preferred)Bachelor's degree in Education or a related fieldDeep knowledge of child development and early learning best practicesExperience with differentiated instruction, data collection, and behavioral strategiesAbility to build strong relationships with families and collaborate with team membersStrong communication, organization, and classroom management skillsHigh level of comfort with integrating technology into instructionWillingness to participate in ongoing coaching and professional developmentExperience working with students in urban or diverse school settings preferredMust pass federal and state criminal background checksAbout Our District:The Garfield Heights City Schools collaboratively and cooperatively serve students and families of the City of Garfield Heights. Located in Cuyahoga County and bordered on the north by the City of Cleveland proper, and on all other sides by the first ring communities of Northeast Ohio. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels.
