The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assist students, teachers, and others as directed. Assist students during lunch in the cafeteria setting. Administer, score, and record such achievements and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes. Supervise restroom breaks and toileting needs and assist when needed. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips. Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and makeup work as assigned. Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills. Know and follow all safety rules and procedures associated with the responsibilities of the position. Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment. Provide emergency assistance and supervise students as needed. Support students with special needs or diverse learning styles. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely. Exemplary in person attendance required. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or school principal. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Paraprofessionals (educational assistants) who provide instructional services must have fulfilled one of the following to meet hiring requirements Obtained an associate?s or higher degree; or Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or Passed the Paraprofessional exam that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics. Two years? experience working with children preferred. Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow directions and be flexible in a fast-paced environment. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems, philosophies, laws, regulations, and procedures; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs. ADA COMPLIANCE: Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds).
