Work Schedule: 15-20 hours per week; shifts based on operational need of the organization. ASI is considered a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 27,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI is engaged in the work of being a learning organization. ASI is looking for dynamic team members who value team learning, co-creation, and adaptability to best serve the needs of our students.The Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) Aquatics team plays a huge role in the operations of the BRIC Pool and Lounge area. The team consists of staff who assist with the day-to-day operations by providing aquatic safety during all operating hours of the pool. Aquatics offers instructional activity programs and certification courses for students to partake. The team also focuses on creating a fun, safe, and exciting programs and special events for campus community members to enjoy. Aquatics provides an opportunity to develop strong leadership skills, professional development, work in a team environment, and be part of a great organization.POSITION DEFINITIONUnder minimal supervision from the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatics Supervisor of Lifeguard Management provides oversight and supervision of the lifeguard team and directly supports the Aquatics Manager in development and implementation of overall aquatics operations. The Aquatics Supervisor performs routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making. The Aquatic Supervisor of Lifeguard Management supervises Lifeguards and Aquatic Assistant Supervisors, collaborates and regularly interacts with program area, department and ASI team members. Must be available to attend all mandatory trainings, meetings, and in-services.ESSENTIAL DUTIESAssist with the overall management of Lifeguards, Aquatic Assistant Supervisors, and pool operationsAssist with the recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluations, scheduling and Time & Attendance for overall supervision of Lifeguards and Aquatic Assistant Supervisors staffAssist with assignment, distribution and inventory of lifeguard uniforms and safety related equipment and suppliesAssist with the development and implementation of orientations and trainings for aquatics staff Assist with maintaining budget tracking, preparing disbursement and purchase order requests, and preparing budget reportsUtilize appropriate department software and tools to complete work assignments and projectsAssist with the development and implementation of department-wide trainings, as needed Monitor the aquatic safety of programs serving participants under the age of 18 years old at the pool.Enforce rules and regulations regarding pool and poolside lounge area usePresent professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer servicePrepare and maintain appropriate activity reportsIf serving as on-duty lifeguard, maintain constant surveillance of participants in the facility act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of participants in the event of emergencyProvide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services, as neededAttend all mandatory trainings, meetings and workshops as requiredPerform other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSCurrent American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, and First Aid for Lifeguards American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification (Employment offer contingent on obtaining this certification within 60 days of hire) Good health and physical/mental ability to perform the job requirements Must be able to swim 300 yards continuously using both front crawl and break strokeMust be able to swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10-pound object and remove it from the pool within 1 minute, 40 secondsDemonstrated leadership qualities Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsAbility to follow routine verbal and written instructionsAbility to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writingAbility to maintain professional work conductAbility to make independent decisions and make recommendationsAbility to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervisionDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus communityAbility to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet and other computer applications Ability to successfully pass a background screening as an offer of employment is contingent on background clearancePOSITION SENSITIVITYBased on the duties and responsibilities of this position, this position has been designated to be a sensitive position with access to sensitive data. In addition, student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term. WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is typically performed outdoors in varying and occasionally extreme (hot) weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around the facility; talk and hear. The employee must frequently move 10 pounds occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and be able to lift a person out of water. Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Position subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
