We offer a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match, generous paid time off, and more.Position SummaryBiomason is seeking a Research Scientist/Senior Engineer specializing in Concrete, to help lead the development, testing, and optimization of bioconcrete products incorporating biocement. This role is highly applied, bridging laboratory research with real-world product development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in aggregate characterization, concrete mix design, statistical experimental design and modeling, and mechanical/durability testing of concrete products. This position reports to the Vice President of R&D and may require occasional international travel to support partnerships, pilot projects, and scale-up initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimize bioconcrete formulations incorporating biocement for strength, durability, and performanceApply statistical methods (DOE, regression modeling, multivariate analysis) to design experiments and build predictive modelsCharacterize concrete materials using industry-standard testing (ASTM, ACI, EN, and other international standards)Translate lab-scale findings into pilot- and production-scale applicationsCollaborate with cross-functional R&D, engineering, and manufacturing teams, as well as external partnersPrepare clear technical documentation and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersRemain current with advances in cement chemistry, biomineralization, and sustainable construction materialsQualificationsM.S. or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Concrete Science, Materials Science, or a related fieldMinimum of 3 years of direct experience in biocement, bioconcrete, or cementitious material research, product development, or testingHands-on experience with pre-cast concrete manufacturing (wet and/or dry) preferred; RMX concrete production experience a plusStrong background in statistical experimental design (DOE) and computational/data modelingExperience in scaling laboratory methods to pilot or production environmentsCompetenciesStrong analytical thinker with creative problem-solving skillsOrganized and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentExcellent oral and written communication skillsCollaborative team player with the ability to work independentlyCommitment to laboratory and site safety protocolsPhysical DemandsAbility to stand, walk, and work in laboratory and pilot plant environments for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 25 pounds occasionallyManual dexterity for handling laboratory equipment and test specimensWork ConditionsWork performed primarily in laboratory, pilot plant, and potentially manufacturing environmentsOccasional exposure to wet or dusty conditions, heavy equipment, and industrial noiseOften exposed to odorsRoutinely works in office environmentsWorks around heavy objects or machineryFrequently works on slippery or uneven surfacesPeriodically exposed to outdoor weather, noise, heat/cold, dust, and industrial environmentsPeriodic international and domestic travel required to support projects and partnershipsBiomason is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
