Torrey Pines Animal Hospital - Job Summary Are you passionate about animal care and eager to make a difference in the lives of pets and their families? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our exceptional team. In this vital role, you’ll contribute to providing outstanding care for our patients while supporting our skilled veterinary staff. You’ll assist in various medical procedures, ensure the comfort and well-being of our patients, maintain a clean and organized environment, and deliver excellent service to our valued clients. This is a full-time position requiring four 10-hour shifts per week with flexibility for weekends and occasional holidays. Compensation is competitive and based on your experience and skill set.   Key Responsibilities Assist veterinarians and technicians during medical procedures, examinations, and surgeries. Safely and compassionately handle and restrain animals during treatments. Administer medications as prescribed by veterinarians. Prepare and maintain examination rooms and surgical areas to ensure cleanliness and readiness. Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment to uphold a hygienic environment. Accurately monitor and record patient vital signs and medical information. Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests as needed. Maintain detailed and accurate patient records. Provide post-operative care and monitor patient recovery. Assist with daily animal husbandry tasks, including feeding, walking, and grooming. Deliver exceptional client service by addressing inquiries and providing a welcoming experience. Educate clients on pet care and medical treatments as directed by the veterinary team. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current on veterinary practices and advancements. Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.   Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (Veterinary Assistant Certification is a plus). Prior experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related field is preferred but not required. Genuine passion for animal welfare and the veterinary field. Ability to safely and compassionately handle animals of all sizes and temperaments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and client interactions. Attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions precisely. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
