A resume may not be substituted for an application.Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or its equivalent.A valid PA Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status and medical examinations as required for the position.Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Quality Manager, the Material Laboratory Assistant assists in the daily operations of the Medical Examiner's Office, as assigned.Overview: Duties: Cleans and maintains all assigned equipment, including glassware, dishwashers, sinks, cabinets, ovens, etc., used in maintaining glassware.Ensure timely distribution of clean glassware and linen resources to their proper locations office-wideMaintains cleanliness and organization of laboratory shelving, chemical hoods, and storage cabinets.Performs general laboratory cleaning tasks as needed or assigned.Provides reliable courier and messenger services for the department.Supports the laboratory's Health & Safety program by overseeing the department's biohazardous waste management procedures and maintaining safe workspaces.Conducts routine daily and weekly checks of the laboratory's deionized water system to ensure proper function.Performs other duties as required or requested. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Operations of the Medical Examiner's Office.Basic laboratory safety protocols and chemical hygiene standards.Proper handling, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory glassware and equipment.Risks of chemical hazards.Decontamination procedures. Skill in: Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to: Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.Perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extending periods.Wear appropriate PPE as required by work assignment such as latex/nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and lab coat.Legally and safely drive a motor vehicle in various weather conditions, times of day, and times of year as required by work assignment.Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with health and safety protocols.Follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.Work independently and as part of a collaborative team.Adapt to changing priorities and complete tasks within designated timeframes.Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Establish effective working relationships with management, employees, interns, court and hospital employees, and the general public.Learn and utilize applicable computer systems, databases, and applications.Work under adverse and unpleasant conditions such as potentially distressing sights, sounds, and odors.Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Safety Data Sheets, and chemical bottle labels.Maintain strict chain of custody in accordance with established protocol.
