BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE POSITIONThe primary responsibility of the Life Safety Specialist will be to support the Facility Operations Division and Safety Department in adhering to local, state and federal regulatory requirements as they relate to life safety, fire prevention and the Environment of Care. This will include compliance with applicable National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory standards as appropriate for Aultman facilities. This position will provide support to existing Safety, Facility and Engineering departments in upholding the organization's value of providing a safe and secure environment.ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE JOB FUNCTIONSEmployees must be able to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.Monitoring, auditing and implementation of Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory agency standards and processes as requiredDevelopment, implementation, and maintenance of life safety policies, procedures, guidelines, processes and systemsCoordination, management and documentation of regulatory-based life safety inspections, testing and corrective actions.Multi-disciplinary collaboration with internal and external colleagues, surveyors and inspectorsCompletion and coordination of ILSM and pre-construction risk assessment processes and other multi-disciplinary life safety functions Life safety, fire prevention chairperson, and Environment of Care Committee documentation and data managementCompletion and management of the Environment of Care's electronic statement of conditions (eSOC), basic building information (BBI) and survey-related plan for improvement (sPFI) processesProvision of life safety and fire prevention education and instruction to staff and key stakeholders as requiredOther duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Safety and SecurityThe above reflects the general duties considered necessary to describe the main functions of the job and is not considered a detailed descriptionEDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSMinimum associate degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred in fire science, mechanical engineering or occupational safety. May be substituted with experience as approved by the Director of Safety and Security and the Vice President of Facility Operations.Ability to obtain Certified Life Safety Specialist - Healthcare (CLSS-HC) through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) within 1 year of employmentPrevious experience with, and knowledge of regulatory compliance as it applies to life safety, building design/construction and fire alarm and suppression systems.Previous experience in the healthcare industryStrong computer skills with experience of Microsoft Office productsStrong organizational, communication and public speaking skillsAbility to work independently and possess both critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Valid Ohio driver's license with no more than 4 pointsAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
