AssuranceAmerica is seeking a Senior Counsel to work out of its Atlanta, GA office. This position will report to the VP, Associate General Counsel and will serve as a key legal advisor to Executive Leadership and business partners across the organization. The Senior Counsel will play a critical role in supporting the Company's growth strategy by providing practical, solution oriented legal guidance in a highly regulated property & casualty insurance environment.This position operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite at our Atlanta office.Primary ResponsibilitiesProvide day-to-day legal advice to Executive Leadership and business units on regulatory, operational and strategic matters impacting the Company.Interpret and advise on applicable state and federal laws governing property & casualty insurance, including rate and form filings, underwriting, claims, producer licensing, advertising and consumer protection matters.Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts and agreements, including vendor agreements, agency agreements, confidentiality agreements and other commercial contracts.Partner with Business Leadership to develop, review and enhance internal policies, procedures and controls to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.Oversee and assist with responses to regulatory inquiries, consumer complaints, subpoenas and Department of Insurance examinations.Manage outside counsel on litigation and other specialized legal matters, including strategy, budgeting and oversight.Support corporate governance activities, including maintenance of corporate records and preparation of Board and committee materials as needed.Monitor regulatory developments and communicate changes in laws and regulations to affected business partners, providing actionable guidance for implementation.Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as determined by the VP, Associate General Counsel.Minimum QualificationsJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active member in good standing of at least one state bar.Minimum of seven to ten years of relevant legal experience, preferably within the property & casualty insurance industry, a regulatory agency or a law firm with an insurance practice.Strong working knowledge of state insurance laws and Department of Insurance regulatory processes.Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.Excellent legal research, writing and analytical skills.Ability to provide practical, business focused legal advice in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with Executive Leadership and cross functional teams.High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
