OPENS: 12/04/2025 CLOSES: Until Filled JOB TITLE: Assistant Cafeteria Manager REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Supervisor DEPT. / SCHOOL: Food Service / Assigned Campus WAGE / HOUR STATUS / TERMS: Non-Exempt/Hourly/Temporary PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for on-site leadership of campus school nutrition operations. Ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served. Meet time constraints set by menu requirements established by Child Nutrition Supervisor. Ensure all operations follow safe food handling standards. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: * High school diploma or GED * Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprint background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate * Must have a Texas Food Manager Certificate Special Knowledge/Skills: * Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparations * Knowledge of food handler safety * Ability to manage personnel * Effective organizational, written communication and interpersonal skills * Team oriented and self-motivated * Ability to operate various equipment including computer and software (e.g. telephone, typewriter, fax machine, scanner, cashier functions equipment and other office equipment) * Handle and record cashier functions accurately and utilize System Designs. * Bilingual Preferred Experience: Minimum of one-year management experience in large-scale food preparation and kitchen management. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Cafeteria Management and Food Preparation * Maintain daily production records of food, meal counts, daily deposits and other required documentation. * Perform cashier duties during the breakfast and lunch meals that are served during the school year. * Maintain all serving schedules and serve all food items according to menu specifications defined by departmental policies and procedures. * Work cooperatively with campus principals to accommodate temporary schedule changes, special serving requirements and to resolve personnel problems. * Create grocery lists for the designated programs. * Place online orders and perform weekly shopping. * Oversee the receipt of food/supplies orders and maintain inventory records. * Train new employees and assist substitutes. * Oversee the preparation and serving of meals. * Oversee kitchen clean-up and storage of leftover food. * Adhere to all district health and safety policies. * Prepare menus for NSLP, CACFP and other company programs. * Preparation of monthly reporting of meal counts for NSLP, CACFP, other programs and staff meals. * Reconcile receipts from daily sales of meals to records and turn in to front office before the end of the day. Safety and Sanitation * Supervise and coordinate food services to ensure proper nutrition and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors. * Ensure that food is produced safely and is high quality according to policies, procedures, and department requirements. Store and handle food items and supplies safely following health and safety codes and regulations. * Supervise and coordinate food services to ensure proper nutrition and safeguard the health of students, staff, and visitors. * Conduct food handler safety training at the campus level and enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety. * Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards, and follow established procedures to meet high standards of cleanliness, health and safety. * Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correactable to supervisor. * Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities. Inventory and Equipment * Ensure the appropriate quantities of food and supplies are available through daily orders and periodic inventories. * Maintain a clean and organized storage area. Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary. * Maintain Logs on all equipment maintenance required within campus food service department. Perform preventive maintenance and report needed equipment repairs. Recommend replacement of existing equipment to meet department needs. * Conduct regular physical equipment and supplies inventory. Policy, Reports, and Law * Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents including reports of daily and monthly financial, production, and activity records. * Review and submit accurate time and attendance records for payroll reporting purposes. * Complete annual continuing education requirements. Other * Oversee transportation of food and non-food items to other buildings. Ensure that paperwork and special instructions are attached to the carts. * Keep an accurate daily record of meals served and money received. * Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. * Attend trainings as necessary. * Travel to other campuses in the district. * Perform other duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: Supervisory Responsibilities: Monitor the work and issue work assignments to campus food service workers. Mental Demands: Understands verbal and written instructions. Reading: ability to perform basic mathematics; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to attend to detail; maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption Tools/Equipment Used: Computer with appropriate software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.), printer, calculator, typewriter, copier, facsimile machine, telephone. Occasional use of all kitchen equipment and knives.
