An employee in this class receives and processes work orders relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and heating equipment, ice machines, cooling towers, pumps, pneumatic equipment, water coolers, and other related equipment for various facilities citywide. This is skilled, journeyman level mechanic work of more than average difficulty in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning and related equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including changing or cleaning filters, adjusting or changing belts, greasing bearings, cleaning drain pans and coils, and checking overall operation of equipmentRepairs watercoolers, ice machines and refrigeratorsMay operate power tools in maintenance and repair work, including such shop tools as drill press, grinder and bench sawOperates a panel or pick-up truck and communicates by two-way radio Installs HVAC equipment in accordance with local and national codesPrepares and prioritizes work schedules; purchases parts and equipmentResponds to service calls; inspects malfunctioning equipment; diagnoses, repairs, and replaces equipmentReviews bids and proposals from contractors; coordinates schedules; attends meetings; reviews job plans and blueprintsMaintains records on service and repair of equipment; prepares and submits reportsRecommends the replacement of air conditioning systems; participates in the preparation of specifications for acquisition of new equipment; recommends equipment purchasesPerforms related work as required JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency, or trade school certificateThree (3) to five (5) years of Journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems, including commercial air conditioning experience.
