Job Title: Application EngineerDepartment: TechnologyReports to: Engineering ManagerLocation: Houston, TX - Hybrid Schedule - MUST BE LOCAL TO HOUSTON, TXSalary: $115k - $130k*General Position DescriptionThe Application Engineer will support the development and enhancement of Arva's cloud-based SaaS application platform, contributing to the build-out of scalable, user-friendly solutions that support sustainable agriculture analytics. This role focuses on application development with an emphasis on API implementation, data integration, and backend services using Python in an AWS cloud environment.As an individual contributor, the Application Engineer will work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, high-quality application features that integrate frontend and backend systems, process complex datasets, and support evolving business needs.Key Responsibilities:Develop and enhance application features that support seamless integration between frontend and backend systemsBuild, modify, and maintain APIs to support internal services and external integrationsContribute to database development using PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and NoSQL technologies to support data-driven applicationsAssist in the development of data pipelines and ETL processes to ingest, clean, and transform large datasetsSupport SaaS platform development initiatives aligned to product roadmaps and architectural standardsImplement application performance optimizations using best practices such as caching and efficient data handlingDevelop and maintain queues and pipelines to process uploaded agricultural data efficientlyParticipate in CI/CD workflows using tools such as GitHub and CircleCI to support automated testing and deploymentsCollaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to deliver intuitive, reliable user experiencesParticipate in daily stand ups, code reviews, and technical design discussionsQualifications5+ years of experience in web-based application or SaaS platform developmentHands-on experience with Python and modern web application frameworks (Django preferred)Experience building and consuming APIs, including integrations with third-party platformsWorking knowledge of AWS cloud services and cloud-based application developmentExperience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS and familiarity with NoSQL data storesExposure to ETL processes, data transformation, and data ingestion pipelinesExperience with CI/CD tools and version control (GitHub, CircleCI, or similar)Familiarity with JavaScript frameworksExperience working in an Agile/Scrum environmentStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teamsExperience or interest in agronomy, agriculture, climate, forestry, or environmental sciences, a plusExposure to geospatial data or large-scale datasets, preferredAbout Arva IntelligenceArva is a machine learning software-based SaaS company with offices located in Houston, TX and Park City, UT.
