Overview:Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of standard techniques, and solves problems when encountered. A certified Interior Designer who possesses and applies a diversified knowledge of interior design principles, practices and procedures to complete assignments with originality and ingenuity. Anticipates job expectations and contributes to project and design solutions.Located about a half-mile from the White House, the Washington DC office was founded in 2003 and represents 5 of HKS' key practice areas, including Health, Commercial Mixed-use, Commercial Interiors, Sports & Entertainment and Mission Critical. In addition to these practice areas, we also have representation from our Innovation and Hub sectors, including Research, strategic Advisory Services, Facades Group and LINE (Laboratory for INtensive Exploration). We are well-established thought leaders, participating in research, industry interviews, and authoring articles for institutions, and our people and projects have been recognized at a local, national and international levels.Responsibilities:Collaborates on all phases of the design process including programming client needs, conceptual and schematic design, design development, document preparation and construction administrationCollaborates in the development of interiors concepts based on client vision, desire, project scope and architectural conceptUtilizes creative thinking to achieve innovative solutionsGenerates renderings and visual presentations that convey the design concepts to the client and generates finish plans, specifications and material selections needed for constructionProvides design support and implementation documentation during completion and execution of design conceptsMay coordinate documentation effort for interiors projects of varying sizes with minimal guidanceMaintains awareness of project program documents and schedules, including effectively meeting deadlinesParticipates in and may assist in leading design presentations internally and externallyEffectively collaborates on implementation documentation and conveys design requirements and solutions to the broader design and construction teamParticipates in the selection and presentation of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), color palettes and lighting to incorporate responsible and sustainable design practicesCoordinates and may lead client presentationsCollaborates in the development of cost estimates for design proposalsCoordinates with project team on review and approval of final interior and exterior programming, design development documents, construction documents, furnishings selections and purchases, RFIs and submittalsParticipates in product presentations to maintain knowledge of industry drivers, products and materials available on the marketCommunicates with other disciplines, product representatives, furniture dealers, and fabricators and contractors to incorporate all information into project requirementsParticipates in and may lead team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplinesMay prepare meeting minutesQualifications:Education and ExperienceAccredited professional degree in Interior Design, Architecture or related fieldTypically 5+ years of experienceLicenses and CertificationsNCIDQ certification requiredSustainable design accreditation strongly preferredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAdvanced - expert-level experience, knowledge or skillsIntermediate - experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or workBasic - familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and can perform elementary functionsAdvanced experience and skills in Revit, Bluebeam, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign requiredAdvanced experience in Twinmotion, Enscape or other visualization tools requiredIntermediate experience and skills in Rhino, Grasshopper and Dynamo required; advanced preferredIntermediate skills in AI design tools and virtual reality such as VR headsets and Yulio requiredIntermediate skills in MS Office Suite preferredIntermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines requiredIntermediate knowledge of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) to carry out design intent preferredBasic knowledge of furniture specifications software required, and of Navisworks preferredBasic knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate into technical documents requiredIntermediate experience with managing and performing duties in a fast-paced environment requiredIntermediate organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects at the same time requiredBasic ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing preferredIntermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions requiredIntermediate ability to work and collaborate in a team environment requiredAdvanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality requiredTravel may be required#LI-KT1Base Salary Range: $75k - 95k for DC locations onlyThe estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in the locations listed above only. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role.
