For more information, visit .The Online Literacy Tutor RoleReading Partners is seeking responsible, patient, and motivated Federal Work Study students to support our one-on-one tutoring program. Using Reading Partners' scripted, evidence-based curriculum, Online Literacy Tutors use our digital curriculum to work one-on-one with students via our online tutoring platform, using video conferencing. Online Literacy Tutors will provide tutoring for the Los Angeles, California area and will be paired with students receiving tutoring at our partner school sites in Los Angeles. Tutoring with Reading Partners requires absolutely no experience, as we provide all the necessary materials and the ongoing training and support of a Reading Partners' team member who is on-site with the students.The Federal Work Study Online Literacy Tutor will work one-on-one with elementary school students at one or more of our partner schools ONSITE in the Los Angeles Area using Reading Partners' online tutoring platform. Follow the Reading Partners' Connects, structured curriculum. Review session notes prior to each lesson and complete notes after each session. Skills, Qualifications and Other Requirements:Eligible for Federal Work StudyPassionate about early literacy and supporting young learnersCommit to a consistent tutoring schedule during school hours (Monday - Thursday, approximately 8 am - 3 pm PST with limited after school sessions available). Preference is given to students who can commit to the full program year (through May/June). Consistent attendance and punctuality is a must!Federal Work Study students typically commit to up to 10 hours per weekEach tutoring session is a little over one hourAttend a Reading Partners tutor orientation before working with studentsSign-off on Reading Partners' Liability Waiver and Media Release and follow our Tutor Code of ConductComplete and pass a background check (paid for by Reading Partners)Maintain a positive attitude toward learning, diversity, and studentsBe open to feedback and coaching. Have patience and empathy for students while holding high expectationsBe able to interact effectively with studentsBe responsive and center the students' learning needs:Get to know the students and honor their experiences.Regularly look for opportunities to listen to and learn from studentsInvest in students' success and support students in achieving their full potentialAvoid making assumptions or letting assumptions influence your interactions with studentsUse affirming language that validates the student's feelings and/or experiences in and outsideof the reading centerRemain open and engaged when interacting with tutor and student read aloud texts and Reading Partners' social emotional learning curriculumExercise patience while working with young learnersRemain flexible around changes that may occur to the schedule that are outside of Reading Partners' controlHave access to reliable, password protected wifi, PC, Mac, or Chromebook computer with a functioning webcam and microphone.
