Over the years, FYI has grown into one of Washington's most respected sources of news and information on science policy and appropriations. Now, we're looking for a new Director to lead our team of journalists during one of the most dynamic and challenging moments in science policy history.As Director and top editor of FYI, you'll lead a reporting team that plays an essential role in how science policy is understood by the key stakeholders working in the field today. You'll set the editorial direction and strategic vision for this vital publication as it continually adapts to meet the needs of a highly influential audience. FYI needs dynamic and experienced leadership eager to embrace the challenges of a volatile coverage landscape in a fractured media climate. With the financial stability of AIP and a state-of-the-art publishing platform, FYI's next leader will be well-positioned to make an impact.This is an opportunity to steer one of the most respected voices at the intersection of science and public policy.WHAT YOU'LL DO:• Lead and manage a team of reporters and analysts, setting the editorial agenda for coverage of U.S. science policy and the federal research landscape.• Edit stories, newsletters, and special projects to ensure accuracy, clarity, and editorial excellence.• Oversee production of FYI newsletters, the FYI website, and FYI's Budget and Bill Trackers.• Coordinate collaborative efforts with other AIP content units, including Policy Research and Physics Today.• Provide strategic vision and operational leadership for FYI products and initiatives.• Serve as a thought leader and public face on science policy developments for internal stakeholders, including AIP Member Societies, as well as external audiencesWHAT YOU'LL BRING: • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.• 5-8 years of proven success and experience in policy reporting, science writing, or policy analysis.• A strong grasp of legislative and budget processes in the US federal government• Preferably a solid understand of science policy and the issues surrounding science policy• Experience level enables job holder to provide leadership to others, work-related systems, processes, and challenges.• Managerial Experience: Experienced in strategic management and leadership across organizational functions directing substantial resources over long-time frames.TO APPLY: Include a resume and a cover letter.We encourage you to apply even if your experience does not fully match the position description. The team works in a flexible, hybrid schedule and reports to our offices in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC, as needed. Employees are required to reside in the DC Metro regions of Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC.
