We are committed to maintaining a safe, diverse, and welcoming workplace for all.Job Title: Maintenance Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Department: OperationsSUMMARY: The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance department, ensuring the efficient functioning of all machinery, equipment, and building systems. This position requires a balance between hands-on leadership and administrative duties, focusing on key areas such as safety, quality, cost management, equipment reliability, and team development. The Maintenance Manager will lead, train, and motivate a team of maintenance staff while aligning departmental objectives with the plant's overall operational goals. This role reports directly to the Plant Manager.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES: Leadership & Team Development: Lead, engage, and communicate with the maintenance team to drive key strategies related to safety, cost control, quality, production efficiency, and employee engagement.Collaborate with the Plant Manager to ensure seamless integration of maintenance activities with overall plant operations.Foster a cohesive, high-performing team atmosphere by motivating staff, recognizing achievements, and addressing performance concerns with appropriate action (coaching, discipline, or recognition).Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for new and existing technicians, focusing on new technologies, equipment-specific training, and personal skill development to support career progression within the department.Maintenance Operations & Scheduling:Develop and manage weekly maintenance schedules, ensuring alignment with plant efficiency targets, production schedules, and customer service objectives.Assign and oversee the execution of preventive maintenance tasks, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.Lead the team in the execution of both preventive and predictive maintenance, as well as emergency repairs for all processing equipment and building systems.Analyze operational issues and guide the team in troubleshooting and resolving complex maintenance challenges.Prioritize tasks based on production needs and the urgency of equipment failures, aiming to reduce machinery downtime and increase plant uptime.Safety, Compliance & Food Safety:Ensure full compliance with all company safety programs, practices, and regulations, actively leading safety initiatives by example.Oversee compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards and demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the highest food safety standards in all areas of responsibility.Continuously promote and support a safe, healthy work environment and foster a culture of safety among maintenance staff.Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing:Actively promote lean manufacturing principles and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve the plant's overall performance.Identify areas for process improvements and work with the team to implement solutions that increase reliability and reduce operating costs.Employee Relations & Performance Management:Support a positive work environment through fair treatment, open communication, and respect for all employees. Address employee concerns promptly and ensure follow-up to resolve issues.Review daily timekeeping records and verify weekly time records for maintenance staff. Monitor attendance and absenteeism, ensuring adherence to company policies.Provide leadership and guidance for team development, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions, when necessary.Capital Expenditure & Budget Management:Lead and manage the capital expenditure (CapEx) process, including the submission of all requests, tracking equipment costs, and overseeing project implementation.Manage the department's capital budget, including the preparation of a 5-year capital expenditure plan to support the ongoing needs of the facility.Ensure that all capital projects are completed within budget and meet operational requirements.Cross Department Communication & Collaboration:Maintain regular communication with other departments to ensure that important information is shared and that maintenance schedules align with production and operational requirements.Collaborate with other department managers to identify potential issues and propose proactive solutions.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial) or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance management, with a strong background in managing large teams and complex maintenance operations.Industry Knowledge: Extensive experience in industrial maintenance, including ammonia refrigeration systems, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general plant operations.Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of the use of hand tools, power tools, electrical multi-meters, and other maintenance equipment. Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.Food Industry Experience: Preferred background in food manufacturing, particularly in meat processing, with a focus on maintaining food-grade equipment and systems.Compliance Expertise: Strong understanding of safety regulations, HACCP, and food safety standards.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team. Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex maintenance issues, troubleshoot effectively, and implement solutions to minimize downtime.Project Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, including maintenance schedules, capital expenditure plans, and continuous improvement projects.Computer Proficiency: Proficient in maintenance management software and basic office tools (Microsoft Office Suite).
