POSITIONHost/HostessJOB DESCRIPTION The Host/Hostess is the first point of contact for guests entering the restaurant and is responsible for creating a welcoming, professional, and organized dining experience. This position manages guest seating, wait lists, and reservations while ensuring smooth communication between guests, servers, and management. The Host/Hostess plays a key role in maintaining guest satisfaction by providing friendly service, managing dining room flow, and ensuring guests feel valued and welcomed.REPORTS TO Restaurant Supervisor/ManagerKEY RESPONSIBILITIESGreet guests promptly and warmly upon arrival.Manage guest seating according to server rotation, table availability, and guest preferences.Maintain and manage the reservation system and wait list.Provide accurate wait time estimates and keep guests informed of delays.Escort guests to tables and present menus when appropriate.Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand and entrance area.Answer incoming phone calls and assist with reservations and guest inquiries.Communicate effectively with servers, bussers, and kitchen staff regarding table status and guest needs.Monitor dining room flow to maximize seating efficiency and guest satisfaction.Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the dining room when needed.Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.Address minor guest concerns and escalate issues to management when necessary.Follow all company service standards, policies, and safety procedures.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLSPrevious customer service or restaurant experience preferred.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Friendly, professional demeanor with a strong focus on guest service.Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.Ability to remain calm and professional during busy periods.Basic computer or reservation system knowledge preferred.PERFORMANCE STANDARDSCustomer Satisfaction:Serve as a guest relations ambassador, delivering exceptional service every moment of the day.Exhibit professionalism, courtesy, and respect towards guests and associates under all circumstances.Strive to create memorable guest experiences, maintaining Shangri-La's high service standards.Work Habits:Follow established work procedures and policies, maintaining punctuality and reliable attendance.Adapt to changes in the work environment with a positive attitude.Approach problem-solving proactively, seeking assistance when needed and continuously improving skills.Safety & Security:Adhere to Shangri-La's safety and security policies, including key controls and proper handling of chemicals.Exercise care when lifting heavy objects and promptly report any safety concerns or hazards.Ensure compliance with emergency procedures to maintain a secure environment for guests and associates.PHYSICAL DEMANDSAbility to stand and walk for extended periods.Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.Ability to move quickly and safely throughout the dining room.WORK ENVIRONMENTFast-paced restaurant environment.Frequent interaction with guests, team members, and management.Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be required.KEY COMPETENCIESGuest Service ExcellenceCommunication SkillsOrganization & MultitaskingTeam CollaborationProfessional Appearance and DemeanorADDITIONAL NOTESThis role summary outlines core duties but is not exhaustive.
